Oklahoma Sooners guard Aaliyah Chavez has been one of the best freshmen in college basketball in 2025-2026. She's coming off of her sixth SEC Freshman of the Week award after her 15-point overtime performance propelled the Sooners to a win over No. 2 South Carolina. On Tuesday, Chavez was named USBWA National Freshman of the Week.

Chavez had 26 points in the win over the Gamecocks and then followed it up with an 18-point performance in a tough road win over Auburn. Last week, she averaged 6 assists per game and shot better than 44% from three in both performances.

The former No. 1 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class has been everything the Oklahoma Sooners could have hoped for in year one. She's leading the Sooners in points per game and assists, and has eight 20-point games in her true freshman season. Chavez is sixth in the SEC in scoring and ninth in assists per game, proving she's already among the best in college basketball.

Chavez and the Oklahoma Sooners will be back in action on Thursday night when they host Texas A&M. After that, OU will go to Austin and Nashville for a pair of crucial games against a pair of the best teams in the country in Texas and Vanderbilt.
