Considering the quality of the league, the best freshman in the Southeastern Conference is a strong contender for the best freshman in the nation.

Oklahoma's Aaliyah Chavez is the best freshman in the conference.

Chavez scored her sixth Freshman of the Week award Tuesday, the league announced. Her 26-point, eight-assist in OU's win over No. 2 South Carolina on Thursday was the stuff of legend. Chavez scored 15 points in overtime, making four 3-pointers to put away the Gamecocks. She was the first freshman since Caitlin Clark in 2021 to scored 26 points and dole out eight assists against a top-25 team.

With her sixth award, Chavez is tied for third in SEC history, trailing Mikayla Blakes' seven and Rhyne Howard's eight. The six are also second in Sooners history, behind Courtney Paris's nine.

Besides her performance against South Carolina, Chavez dropped another team-high 18 points in Sunday's win over Auburn. She has scored in double figures in every game of her career but one and she leads the team in scoring and assists, averaging 19.1 points and 4.3 assists per game.

Oklahoma is back in action Thursday at home against Texas A&M before a massive game Sunday at Texas, where ESPN's "Women's College GameDay" will televise.
