New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown was all smiles after Friday's training camp practice.
Maybe it was because he was one of the standout players for a second straight day on the football field. Or, perhaps it had something to do with the quarterback throwing him the ball, Drake Maye. Brown, a three-time All-Pro wide receiver, has been in the league long enough to know rare talent when he sees it.
And admittedly, he sees it in Maye.
"He's very special. He's very special, and I continue to brag on him," Brown said on Up & Adams. "He can make any throw. He really tries to be a perfectionist, and sometimes I tell him, 'Just put it in the area. You don't have to try to be perfect. You don't have to try to place the ball in my hands, 30-40 yards [downfield].' But his mindset is I'm running down the field, and he's trying to place the ball in my hands, 30-40 yards down the field, which is really hard to do, but he makes it look effortless."
Maye found Brown for a deep shot over star cornerback Christian Gonzalez at Friday's practice. It was the duo's first long-ball connection in competitive 11-on-11s.
The chemistry appears to be growing each and every practice, which is a great sign for the Patriots this season. Brown is one of the best man-coverage beaters in the NFL and a real matchup nightmare in the red zone. An elite offensive weapon like that in Maye's arsenal could take the 23-year-old quarterback's game to another level in 2026.
