The New England Patriots held a joint training camp practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday.
It was an extended session that included one-on-one work, 7-on-7s, 11-on-11s, red zone work and situational drills during the competitive team period.
The Patriots were missing their top two cornerbacks for the practice. Christian Gonzalez was absent, and Carlton Davis has been limited since returning from a previous injury. That left plenty of opportunities for the backup cornerbacks to see reps with the top defensive unit.
On the offensive side of the ball, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had a solid day, aside from an interception he threw during a two-minute drill. But the unit as a whole was clicking throughout the joint practice setting.
Here are the five standouts from Day 14 of training camp:
Patriots backup quarterback Tommy DeVito has strung together some solid practices. Like Drake Maye, he has a deeper command of Josh McDaniels' offense in Year 2, and it is showing up on the football field. In Tuesday's practice with the Colts, he connected on a 50-plus-yard bomb to wideout Mack Hollins on the first snap of his one-minute drill. The play went for a touchdown and simultaneously washed away the stench from the top unit turning the ball over.
There wasn't enough action off the edge, but Elijah Ponder had some nice plays for the Patriots' defense, including a batted-down pass and a would-be strip sack. The second-year defender is eyeing a potential breakout season in 2026. That would be huge for a Patriots team clearly lacking in edge rushing depth.
A.J. Brown's one-on-one highlight against Sauce Gardner was so good that it went viral. The veteran wide receiver shook Gardner on a route that nearly made the Colts' cornerback fall to the ground. He also hauled in a beautiful one-handed touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone.
On a day when the Patriots had to rely on mostly backups in the secondary, safety Dell Pettus stood out on defense. He finished the day with a pass breakup and a pair of run stuffs during the competitive team period. Even when the defensive unit struggles, Pettus is one of those players who continues to show up consistently on the field.
Patriots tight end Eli Raridon has continued to make plays at practice, despite being a rookie behind Hunter Henry. It has become clear out of the gates that Raridon could be a major factor on offense for the Patriots. He hauled in a touchdown pass from Tommy DeVito at Tuesday's practice, along with this connection on a crosser with Drake Maye.
