After taking Sunday off, the New England Patriots were back on the football field for Monday's eighth training camp practice.

There was no live audience due to heavy rain in the area for the practice, which was originally scheduled to be open to the public. Instead, they were moved indoors for another competitive practice in pads.

It was a balanced competition with standouts taken from both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. That's what any coach hopes to see out of a team that is a little over a week out from its first preseason game.

Here are the standouts from Day 8 of training camp practice:

WR Kayshon Boutte

Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte has made a habit of coming up with play-of-the-day catches at training camp. He was at it again on Monday with a toe-tap touchdown catch on a pass from backup quarterback Tommy DeVito in the corner of the end zone. If it hasn't been made clear by now, the Patriots are better offensively with Boutte on the field.

CB Karon Prunty

Patriots rookie cornerback Karon Prunty is sticky in coverage. He came away with an interception at Saturday's practice, and on Monday, he broke up a Drake Maye pass intended for A.J. Brown on an impressive play. Prunty has made the most of his opportunities on the first-team unit with Carlton Davis still sidelined with an injury.

LB Chad Muma

With the run game seeing extended work, the defense called on the defensive tackles and linebackers to step up and make plays.

And that's exactly what the unit did on Monday.

Veteran linebacker Chad Muma, in particular, had a strong day of practice, stuffing a run and getting a pass breakup on a play intended for Rhamondre Stevenson. Those kinds of hustle plays weigh heavily on coaches when making roster decisions.

WR A.J. Brown

The toughness of Patriots star wideout A.J. Brown can't be questioned. After practice, he revealed that he suffered a dislocated thumb at Monday's training camp practice. Instead of calling it a day, he popped his thumb back into place and returned to the field, where he finished with three touchdowns on the day.

OT Will Campbell

The impressive training camp run by Patriots offensive tackle Will Campbell continued on Monday. He went a perfect 2-0 in his one-on-one reps at practice. We are seeing flashes of the version of Campbell that we saw before the knee injury last season. A healthy and motivated Campbell is a solid left tackle for the Patriots.
