The NFL Draft is the time of year when all 32 fan bases are filled with excitement and optimism about their team. There is equal excitement within the front office of every team, as they believe the work they have done leading up to the draft is the best compared to the other 31 around the league. They also believe every pick they make will be the one that will lead them to the Super Bowl.

Sadly, that will not be the case.

The Vikings are, of course, led by general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who is on a hot streak coming off an active 2024 NFL Draft year. Both he and the fans are hoping the momentum carries over to next week's draft. To do that, they will have to avoid some of the traps in the draft, which come in the form of players with high upside but who need further development.

We have three players the Vikings should avoid in Thursday's NFL Draft.

Grey Zabel, OL, North Dakota State

Grey Zabel played tackle in college but turned heads at the Senior Bowl when he moved inside to guard and center. He showed he could adapt well to the changes and be productive in those spots. While the Vikings have been projected to draft another guard to perhaps compete with Blake Brandel, round one is not the time or place for it. Zabel could be a day one starter for anyone who drafts him, but the Vikings should avoid him simply due to them having more pressing needs in the secondary.

Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame

Yes, we just mentioned above the Vikings have a need in the secondary, so why am I saying to avoid a cornerback? Morrison, before the year, was projected to be a top ten pick, but a hip injury ended his season, derailed that preseason hype. While he has gotten a clean bill of health and done workouts for teams, I remain skeptical. I think for a team that has had many defensive misses in the past for various reasons, it's best to avoid anything risky for the time being.

Walter Nolen, DL, Ole Miss

The Vikings have been tied to drafting another defensive lineman in mock drafts, but what kind of defensive lineman do they need exactly? After addressing the position with Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen in free agency, I think getting someone to fill in the rotation is all they need, so no one like a Walter Nolen in round one is needed. Everyone is forgetting that the team also has Jalen Redmond, whom they re-signed, and Levi Drake Rodriguez, who is also waiting in the fold. They can address this position later in the draft. Don't reach for the big bull rusher from Ole Miss in round one.
