As for Martinez, seems destined for TJ surgery… Which to me, isn’t that surprising given the velocity he throws at and his really poor mechanics. If you compare him guys like Ryan, Gibson, Chapman, you’ll see how the best power pitchers who remained healthy for the most part, used their lower body. JMart puts a tremendous amount of strain and torque on his elbow, amplified due to his poor mechanics.
And before you go all Kaplan deranged syndrome… JMart has only been pitching since 2018. It will take longer than 6+ years to properly adjust his pitching motion, if ever at all. Some guys simply can’t make the adjustments and remain effective. We’ll see if JMart can…
