Gowan was a first-team all-state pick at Newton High School. He began his collegiate career at Miami (Ohio), redshirting in 2016 and appearing in three games in 2017 (one tackle). He transferred to Butler Community College, where he intercepted six passes and broke up four others in 2018. He then moved on to UCF, where he started nine of 12 games played in 2019, recording 31 tackles (one for loss), two interceptions and eight pass breakups. He opted out of the 2020 season, revealing that he had tested positive for COVID-19 in the past. -- by Chad Reuter

Overview
Outside cornerback who will struggle to stay connected to routes against speed or quality route runners. He does a nice job of crowding underneath routes and has the length and ball instincts to make receivers really work for it on contested catches. Gowan needs to get stronger, but has good size and length to work with. His area of effectiveness will be limited at the next level. He might need to be paired with defenses utilizing more Cover 2 or Cover 3 schemes.
Strengths
  • Added 20 pounds to his frame since coming into college.
  • Limited experience but has ball production in his background.
  • Grabbed six interceptions in junior college.
  • Impressive use of length to recover.
  • Instinctive timing at the high-point.
  • Makes a strong effort to aggressively crowd and disrupt catches underneath.
  • Strong challenger on 50/50 balls.
  • Has a skill of slipping big blockers on the edge.
Weaknesses
  • Only one season as a starter at the FBS level.
  • Bumpy backpedal in early match phase of the release.
  • Below-average transitions into sprint.
  • Slow to gather and redirect his weight downhill in coverage.
  • Below-average closing burst on the throw.
  • Speed-deficient when chasing vertical rabbits.
  • Doesn’t find deep balls consistently.
  • Loses too much coverage ground at break points.
  • Needs to get stronger.

Gowan is a tall and lean corner with good top-end speed and adequate length. His technique is inconsistent and he needs to get stronger, but he has good upside as a press corner. He flashes above-average ball skills. -- Steve Muench

I like the value.

His EDP was 140 with a high of 116. So in the 200s its great value.

His best traight for me is effort. Really strong effort guy. There's a clip of him chasing down an INT about 50 yards from the opposite side of the field.

He's a project but great value for late 6th.

I think he will be great at ST with that effort and relentlessness, hope he can play CB too, but I doubt it, lol

I like the idea of adding another cornerback to the mix.

he was picked AFTER a long snapper, that will be a pretty good accolade for himself if he ever turns into a decent player

My sentiments exactly!
