He’s still out there playing special teams for the Panthers.
The money makes it worth hanging around, but he didn’t love it enough to be great. He certainly had the physical tools, so maybe his football IQ wasn’t where it need to be either. Or maybe he was just flat out stupid?

Sometime ago I was having a conversation with a long time cross country coach from Wilcox AZ. At the time I was big into endurance athletics (marathons and triathlons). I was picking his brain for ways to sharpen and become faster (I was 27 and had just finished 438 out of 28k, Kenyans and Ethiopians included). He had many good words of advice for me, but the one thing he said always stuck:

“I’ve coached athletes for over 40 years, and every one of them has a peak or climax. Some peak in HS, some in college, and some as paid professionals. I’ve seen many HS athletes shatter state records only to get to college and flame out. Not because they didn’t apply themselves, but because they’d already peaked. You never know when that climax will come.”

I remember a RB out of Brophy named Mike Mitchell. Dude looked like he was going to be the next Walter Payton. Size, speed, strength, and phenomenal agility were all there. Was recruited by Stanford. Once there and at that level he became a nobody- nothing more special than any other walk on at any university. Very disappointing to see.

I tend to believe IS also peaked early (in the NCAA) and just didn’t have it anymore when he landed in the league.

There are always receipts

crap dude, this is just post draft hopium. I wrote extensively before the draft that he wasn't a linebacker and was a safety. Granted, I thought he might be a Emmanwori type player but he just never had the mental capacity. I also said we shouldn't draft him in the top 10.

Once you're locked into a guy you have to try look for the gold among the crap.

I had major concerns about him. Pretty sad you took the time to go dig for that TBH.

Also lol for Orlovsky saying that Simmons was our generations Urlacher in that thread.
