Obviously the Warriors are a title contenders but I don't think Durant makes them better than they were last year. They didn't lack for starting scoring and outside shooting, sure, having another guy who can create his own shot is great but is he going to do it any more efficiently than Curry was? I doubt it. And an argument could be made that being more selective will make him and Curry more efficient... but I doubt it, especially with how good Curry was at defaulting to teammates already, if anything I think their combination will take away from each of their potency as they yield opportunities they're normally comfortable with. There is only one ball. Durant and Westbrook had a tricky enough balance between them and they didn't have the other mouths to feed that the Warriors do.
And in order to get Durant the Warriors had to sacrifice a lot of depth. Their bench is a shell of the unit they've had the last few seasons and if they had any weaknesses it was defensive consistency and rebounding, two areas they're clearly worse.
Basically, Durant is an amazing player, no questioning that, but the stuff he brings to the table is stuff the Warriors already had in bunches, and they had to sacrifice in areas they were not nearly as strong in to get him.
