I don’t think I will have the time to write this kind of post after the last preseason game and before cuts are coming in, so I thought I would do the safe thing and write it now and make it about the final roster instead. It’s going to be ten thoughts on players I am excited to see against the Broncos. I have expanded it to 15 thoughts this week. I don’t know what it will be going forward.
One thing, though, I would like to ask. Why is it that most people seem to be extremely critical of the preseason, saying things like how annoying it is, how they can’t wait for it to be over and stuff like that? For me, there are several things to like about the preseason. First of all (and the most important thing) it’s football for the first time in several months. Second, most of the players are giving their all because they are fighting for jobs. Third, isn’t it exciting to see who will be on your team, and if they are any good? I don’t know. It seems to me that people are much more critical of the preseason than the offseason between the draft and the start of training camp when there is absolutely nothing going on.
---------------
– Cornerback Brandon Williams. I just don’t know that Steve Wilks, coming from a defensive backs background, are ready to give up on an athletic specimen like Williams yet. Contrary to my thoughts some weeks ago, I kind of expect Williams to make the team, in parts because of a lack of competition.
– Safety Rudy Ford. I would suppose he is on the final roster (not the least do to him being great on special teams), but is he one of the players that is let go to make room for someone cut from another team?
– Wide receiver Brice Butler. Can’t make the club from the tub. Now, go show something.
– Wide receiver Greg Little. Again, show me something. Anything!
– Edge rusher Cap Capi. Will he once again prove to be a preseason monster that coaches won’t trust to do good in games?
– Linebacker Dennis Gardeck. I like this guy. Please do good.
– Quarterback Charles Kanoff. Prediction – If Kanoff plays well, they will trade Glennon for something conditional.
– Offensive lineman Daniel Munyer. I see them go with nine or ten offensive linemen, and I don’t see nine or ten offensive linemen being better than Munyer the guard.
– Runningback Elijah Penny. With Foster down, I would carry two fullbacks which would really be one and a half fullback with Penny half a runningback as well.
– Cornerback Deatrick Nichols – If nothing else, he is certainly good enough for the practice squad, if he doesn’t get picked up by some other team.
– Wide receiver Trent Sherfield. Does Brice Butler and Greg Little secure Sherfield a spot on the final roster?
– Edge rusher Alec James – It should say something when the head coach unsolicited mentions a undrafted free agent at a position where a starting spot should be up for grabs due to lack of better.
– Safety Zeke Turner – Special teams stud with a lot of talent, but over Rudy Ford and possible a waiver claim?
– Tight end Andrew Vollert – Well, there’s no one to beat him out with Gresham being on PUP.
