I don’t think I will have the time to write this kind of post after the last preseason game and before cuts are coming in, so I thought I would do the safe thing and write it now and make it about the final roster instead. It’s going to be ten thoughts on players I am excited to see against the Broncos. I have expanded it to 15 thoughts this week. I don’t know what it will be going forward.

One thing, though, I would like to ask. Why is it that most people seem to be extremely critical of the preseason, saying things like how annoying it is, how they can’t wait for it to be over and stuff like that? For me, there are several things to like about the preseason. First of all (and the most important thing) it’s football for the first time in several months. Second, most of the players are giving their all because they are fighting for jobs. Third, isn’t it exciting to see who will be on your team, and if they are any good? I don’t know. It seems to me that people are much more critical of the preseason than the offseason between the draft and the start of training camp when there is absolutely nothing going on.

---------------

1 – Cornerback Brandon Williams. I just don’t know that Steve Wilks, coming from a defensive backs background, are ready to give up on an athletic specimen like Williams yet. Contrary to my thoughts some weeks ago, I kind of expect Williams to make the team, in parts because of a lack of competition.

2 – Safety Rudy Ford. I would suppose he is on the final roster (not the least do to him being great on special teams), but is he one of the players that is let go to make room for someone cut from another team?

3 – Wide receiver Brice Butler. Can’t make the club from the tub. Now, go show something.

4 – Wide receiver Greg Little. Again, show me something. Anything!

5 – Edge rusher Cap Capi. Will he once again prove to be a preseason monster that coaches won’t trust to do good in games?

6 – Linebacker Dennis Gardeck. I like this guy. Please do good.

7 – Quarterback Charles Kanoff. Prediction – If Kanoff plays well, they will trade Glennon for something conditional.

8 – Offensive lineman Daniel Munyer. I see them go with nine or ten offensive linemen, and I don’t see nine or ten offensive linemen being better than Munyer the guard.

9 – Runningback Elijah Penny. With Foster down, I would carry two fullbacks which would really be one and a half fullback with Penny half a runningback as well.

10 – Cornerback Deatrick Nichols – If nothing else, he is certainly good enough for the practice squad, if he doesn’t get picked up by some other team.

12 – Wide receiver Trent Sherfield. Does Brice Butler and Greg Little secure Sherfield a spot on the final roster?

13 – Edge rusher Alec James – It should say something when the head coach unsolicited mentions a undrafted free agent at a position where a starting spot should be up for grabs due to lack of better.

14 – Safety Zeke Turner – Special teams stud with a lot of talent, but over Rudy Ford and possible a waiver claim?

15 – Tight end Andrew Vollert – Well, there’s no one to beat him out with Gresham being on PUP.

I kid you not when I say Brandon Williams is the worst CB on the roster & that’s counting all the UDFAs. People say he was on the Patriots’ radar in the 2016 draft, but I just don’t believe it. He would have never gotten drafted if the FO didn’t do a mega reach for him in the 3rd round. He was bad in college as well.

Rudy Ford is a lock, he has outplayed the rest of the safeties not named Baker, Boston, or Bethea. He has earned his spot.

The rest of the questions are valid. Brandon Williams is the biggest mystery for me. Why they would keep a guy for special teams and athleticism, and not go with Chris Campbell instead of Williams would be a head scratcher for me.

Not sure what Chris Campbell did to fall out of favor but he disappeared off the map over the last few weeks.

Gambo seems to think that BWill is a lock because he’s evidently one of their three best special teamers. I disagree completely!

I’d much rather have guys on the team like Nichols, Sherfield, Gardeck that have shown out and can actually do other things. If BWill hasn’t shown it yet, he never will.

Oh and McCrane over Dawson fo sho!

I'm trying to remember a Brandon Williams special teams play. One of their three best? If they're talking about a return man, I think that is the spot for guys like Logan or Kirk or people like this.

What about Bene Benwilkere? Seems like he was always around the ball, and made a lot of plays when he had the chance.

He is in. I would say he is the 1st DB in the game at cornerback, safety or nickel back after the "starting 5"

Peterson, Taylor, Baker, Boston, Bethea

I would like to see the Cards let Kicker Matt McCane do all the kicking in this game. If he does well, I'd drop Phil Dawson. That would save $3.5Million this year. Additionally, Dawson did not have a good season last year and has missed 2 FGs in preseason and is 43 years old. McCane had a terrific college career at Kansas State. He has made 2 FGs over 50 yds in the preseason. I think he can delve lopinto a top kicker in the NFL. Time to move on from Dawson.

I finally got around to watching the 4th quarter of the Dallas game last night and got to see his historic drop. I thought maybe people were being too rough on him, but my god. That was cartoonishly bad. If he chokes like that in the preseason... It was a nice story and I feel bad for the guy after all the work he's put into it - I think over two offseasons? But you just can't.

He caught the ball. Twice! Sign him up! My standards have devolved, but that's what its come to. If you can catch the ball, you're on the team.
