The point being, in my humble opinion, is always draft best player available unless there is comparable talent that fits a need.

We saw that when the Suns drafted Josh Jackson as well.
Ayton over Luka, Hali, Brunson and maybe even SGA. All players we passed on for someone who was either a "better fit" or potential higher ceiling.

It took a while for the game to slow down for him though. We see that a lot with point guards, QBs as well.

The skills and talent were always there, though. He just needed the opportunity Dallas gave him.

At least I can understand why the Suns drafted Ayton.

The Suns have always needed an elite center unless we count Amare.

Brunson was pick #33. He was projected as a back-up and was thought to have a low ceiling. Suns picked Okobo at #31. If you want to say we should have picked Brunson at #31, I agree, but he wasn't sniffing the lottery where the Suns were picking in the first round in 2018.

So you really would draft another SG to add to our team of almost all SGs? The draft isn't even that strong to begin with. I don't think a BPA SG is going to be all that great in this one. I get what you're saying but I just don't think it applies here. I mean, I guess you could but we'd have to trade 4 of ours after the draft or maybe during the draft in draft day deals. I'm not sure first time GM Gregory is sharp enough to pull that off.
I would. I’m drafting for the future at this point.

I refuse to "like" any candidate. I dropped out of the draft prediction game years ago, after conceding that I--and most people--know virtually nothing. Even NBA front offices themselves, to some extent, know little for certain. I was tired of pretending that I understand these players.

It means little that, for the record, I was calling for the selection of Steve Nash in 1996. Why does it mean little? Because all I was doing was reading the abstracts, the brief profiles of these candidates in the newspaper, and saying something like "This 'Steve Nash' guy sounds good. They should take him." He's probably the only case where the Suns drafted the candidate I liked and the draftee turned out to be a good player.
My claim to fame was Michael Finley. I was yelling at the tv to draft him. I was also right on Wesley person. But I wanted maggette over Marion. Wasn’t thrilled with thunder Dan pick. Wanted Wallace over Nash. Was right about Haliburton. Another I was yelling about.

I preferred SGA over bridges

I thought the Suns had traded for Shai and other posters had to convince me otherwise. Wanted him so bad for the Suns.

Hadn't followed Bridges at the time.

I was watching PF/C Thomas Sorber video. He has huge upside with measurements to support it.

I’m warming to taking him. Again, as a gtown alum I watched him a lot before injury. He’s a good ball player but his athleticism leaves a bit to desire. I’m fighting my Hoya paranoia in both liking him and not wanting to be biased about him.

I was worried that bridges would be a limited 3 and D guy. I liked him, but not as much as Shai. I was really hoping we would come away from that draft with Ayton and a pg and shai was rising fast. I liked his size and length at pg.

Have to mea culpa on Fox. While I liked him I was absolutely convinced Josh Jackson could be Scottie pippen. Oy vey.

If Sorber doesn't have a chronic injury, his talent is off the charts.

I haven't done my research like in drafts of old, but all I can say is eureka.

Man I wouldn’t go that far. For a big he plays below the rim.

There's a significant upside to adding a lottery pick to our depleted war chest but a real downside to it happening 3 days before the draft. Stings a little since it was originally our pick as well. The basketball gods are cruel.

If Sarver wasn't intending to replace McDonough, that is who he reportedly wanted, but I'm sure you have heard that.

Then, despite all his drafting mistakes, we would be talking about what a great GM he is, drafting Booker and Shai.

He will only improve at age 19.

Sorber's measurements are going to minimally make him a good defensive player. I look at him primarily as a center.

Shai was a good player entering the league but I don't think he reaches his current level without spending a year with CP3. It's kind of like Nash needing to go to Dallas to become what he did. I wanted Shai bad that year but was fine with Mikal and surprisingly still am ok with that choice since we added a good player at a position of need that we could develop.

I will never complain about the Suns drafting Mikal Bridges. That's a highly successful pick. I still miss him.

However, they should have traded for Shai. That would be a home run. I think he develops no matter who is the mentor. He is that good.

I think he'd be an All-Star level player but not an MVP. He seemed more of a sidekick instead of an alpha, IMO. Obviously we'll never know but I recall being mad we didn't take Brunson. I was high on him. He was right there in the 2nd round also. I thought he'd go in the 20's because of his size. I didn't think he'd become what he has though. I thought his deal in New York was an overpay even though I did like the move. He's another guy who needed his own team to reach the level he has.

I don't think anyone can predict MVP level players, only look at their potential and expect them to be good and exceed expectations.

Brunson far exceeded expectations as a second round pick. I look at him as a self-made player through hard work. He was never the most athletic player in the NBA.
