So as we all know the 10 year anniversary team as voted on by the fans was:
1B Mark Grace
2B. Tony Womack
SS. Craig Counsell
3B. Matt Williams
LF. Louis Gonzalez
CF. Steve Finley
RF/OF. Eric Byrnes
C. Damian Miller
LSP. Randy Johnson
RSP. Brandon Webb
C. Jose Valverde
During the broadcast today they joked about what a lineup for the 10 year team would be like. They didn't go into it, but I thought it would be fun to. So I took one year from each player (of course of when they were in AZ), and tried to put together an ideal lineup. Tell me what you think:
1. Eric Byrnes (R) 2007 (RF)
.286/21HR/83RBI/.353OBP/50SB
A lot of HRs for a lead off guy and the average and OBP could be higher, but he's the only guy on the list that stole a bunch of bases.
2. Mark Grace (L) 2001 (1B)
.298/15HR/78RBI/.386OBP
Good average, always steady, hits plenty of singles and can move guys over.
3. Matt Williams (R) 1999 (3B)
.303/35HR/142RBI/.344OBP
Good average, RBI, HR, obviously a solid guy in the 3 hole.
4. Luis Gonzalez (L) 2001 (LF)
.325/57HR/142RBI/.429OBP
Obviously the only choice here. D'backs all time best HR season, great average, RBI and OBP as well
5. Steve Finley (L) 2000 (CF)
.280/35HR/96RBI/.361OBP
Good amount of HRs and RBI to protect Gonzo.
6. Damian Miller (R) 2000 (C)
.271/13HR/47RBI/.337OBP
Tied for the lowest average on the team, but I put him in the 6 hole to avoid too many lefties in a row.
7. Craig Counsell (L) 2002 (SS)
.282/2HR/51RBI/.351OBP
Good average for the 7 hole, good base runner from what I recall (though he didn't steal a lot)
8. Tony Womack (L) 2002 (2B)
.271/5HR/57RBI/.325OBP/29SB
Good speed at the bottom of the lineup
9. Pitcher
Does that seem like the optimum lineup giving that group of players?
