‘Most probable’ that Dean Huijsen will join another Premier League club

Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen is more likely to join a Premier League club than Real Madrid this summer, despite interest from Spain.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most-coveted centre-backs after an excellent debut season in English football. Huijsen has been a key part of Bournemouth’s bid for European qualification and made his senior debut for Spain during last month’s international break.

Huijsen has a release clause of £50m in his contract with the Cherries, a clause that could facilitate a transfer this summer. The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that five Premier League clubs have an active interest in signing the player.

According to the report, Liverpool have shown a ‘firm interest’ in a deal. The Reds are considering centre-back additions due to a lack of progress in negotiating a new deal with Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman’s current deal will have 12 months to run this summer.

Furthermore, Virgil van Dijk – who is set to sign a new deal at Anfield – will turn 34 in the summer, while there are doubts over the future of Joe Gomez.

Chelsea have also enquired, while Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also interested in a deal. Huijsen has discussed a potential move to Real Madrid recently, amid reported interest from the Spanish champions.

“One of my close friends sent me a story about Real Madrid… he told me: go to Madrid,” Huijsen told Chiringuito.

“It’s a big club. Every player wants to play in the biggest possible.”

However, despite admiration, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are not understood to be ‘actively working’ on a deal in a boost to Premier League teams.
