what did they expect?? The entire system has been telling these kids they can do whatever the hell they want without repercussions for decades,..and since each of them were about 12 years old.
This was bound to happen sooner or later... all the "Official Authorities" are just taking this opportunity to make an example out of a kid to reinforce their authority...
because we all know there is no way he is the first.

Yeah, the hypocrisy is overwhelming. The NFL has let murderers play the game but they're clutching their pearls at a non-crime that happened when the kid wasn't in the NFL. A non-crime they eagerly make shittons of money off.

I guess I don't understand how this is hypocritical.
Hypocritical is an adjective that describes behavior that contradicts a person’s stated beliefs, morals, or opinions. It refers to acting in a way that is insincere, essentially holding others to standards that you do not follow yourself.
So, I would understand if this was a moral decision vs a league rule. League rules state players can't gamble. It's not a moral argument or stating that gambling is bad. Similarly, league rules dictates what substances players can have in their bodies even though those substances might be legal for people who are not in the league.
My company has rules I have to follow that other people don't have to. I make the choice on whether I want to work for the company or whether I want to do those other things.

If you don't understand how the NFL is acting hypocritical, I got nothing for you. The entire league is hypocritical. They let a guy who put illegal substances into his body into the supplemental draft as well. Again, hypocrisy.

not only that...its not like they had a supplemental draft scheduled and just banned him from it. There was not going to be one...and there still is not going to be one.
The leagues position that they choose not to hold one for him alone due to the fact that he applied at the last minute is valid.
did he beat the deadline>?? Sure
and that would mean something if it were a normal situation.
But having a situation that the league would have to put serious investigation into in order to make a decision...waiting until the last minute looks suspect.
I could see him having an argument had he submitted his papers the very day he knew he could not play college ball. But the way he did it looks like he wanted to ensure the league didi not have time to dig too deep.

He has an NFL arm and teams don’t ignore that. A gambling addition is an illness. I know; so are drugs, but if a person doesn’t test positive they typically can play. A first time offender gets a fine, but misses no games. I agree it is hypocritical for the NFL to support gambling, but punish players who gamble. If the NFL wanted me to see separation, they should have stayed at arms length from gambling. I understand this integrity of the game stuff, but I believe NFL players gamble. You won’t see random lie detector tests to ferret out violators. The NFL does their best Sergeant Shultz impression.
