This had good moments but was not a good movie. Aside from being bloviated, the biggest problem is that it tries to recapture the type of wonder and humor from his older movies through the use of cringe comedy and really, incredibly stupid actions.

On the flip side, some of the humor was outstanding, mainly when focused on character dialogue. Acting was superb.

Feels like an amazingly directed, badly written late-series X-Files mythology episode. It wants to be hopeful but lacks the true insight into the issues we face today needed to inspire that emotion by the movie's end.

No, I'd put Bridge of Spies, Ready Player One, and The Fabelmans all in the good category.

I loved RP1. It was great for anyone that grew up in the 80s and got most of the references. The race scene 10 minutes in is still my go-to to demo my home theater. Shakes the house with great Atmos and visuals.

Honestly forgot about Ready Player One and would have to agree.

Haven’t seen the remake of West Side Story and was under the impression it was a massive flop.

I’d put it at Lincoln. That was a period piece biopic that was an absolute smash hit in America, making 180 million domestic, plus 10 Oscar nominations and I think a Best Actor W for Daniel Day Lewis.

After that, I’d agree for the general public. Fableman’s holds a special place in my heart because of the circumstances surrounding my viewing experience, but West Side Story is a totally slept on musical masterpiece that snap, crackles and pops off the screen in a way that shocked me.

I saw that some in the evangelic milieu claim it's deceiving people and conditioning them to fall for the antichrist. Makes me want to see it for sure then. Between Harry Potter and this movie I should be good and possessed by evil.

I haven't seen many later Spielberg movies but thought Lincoln was brilliant, mostly do to Daniel Day Lewis (he was superb as always).

Yeahhhh… thus wasn’t it. I get the message but other than a good performance from Blunt and a fun train setpiece, I was pretty bored.

Most of my problems stemmed from the first 45 minutes or so. The story was incoherent for most of that time, and the characters, one in particular, was doing things that made no sense.

That said, I thought it really picked up halfway through and I enjoyed it enough by the end. I admit I do have some Spielberg bias, but a bad Spielberg film is still better than a lot of movies made by lesser directors. But that's just me.

That first 45 was really a slog.

I also thought they did a really bad job of setting up the stakes/temperature
Of the world at large in those 45 minutes. It’s supposed to take place as the world is on the verge of WW3, but it’s barely paid lip service once or twice and then there’s that jarring scene at the gas station past the midpoint of the movie (don’t worry folks… none of this is really spoilers).

Last thing… and this is a small nitpick, but my lord the animals in this movie looked SO FAKE. Especially the Fox. This is supposed to be the greatest director of all time and I’ve seen AI on TikTok that looked more realistic than the CGI Animals at points in time during the movie.
