Here’s the presser with HC Sean McVay and GM Snead that has everyone evaluating what was going on with McVay:

On second look, I think McVay is pizzed because Snead is revealing too much of the internal thinking/plotting that went on behind closed doors of the Ram’s draft process. Also, note the answer regarding taking a backup who may well become the starter—recall Stafford went into the 2025 season with a big question mark because of his back. Snead is pretty open while discussing that—with McVay cringing at discussing that at all.
Are we looking at Stafford close to retirement because of that back—not something the Rams would want known at this point.
Plenty of reaction on Youtube of that original presser. Even had McVay coming out with ‘explanations’ for the pick the next day.

Anyone in that FO is safe until they catch the attention of owner Stan Kroenke. He owns multiple sports teams and hires guys and then lets them do what he hired them for—until they don’t collect the titles and SB wins.
The Ram’s primary purpose was to get a QB that they had rated high. This draft looked like the opportunity to do that—Rams —if they have MVP Stafford as their QB—are predicted by many to be SB winners in 2026-27. That means they are looking at the very last pick in the next draft. They lucked out with two #1's this year via their own pick and a trade. Rams got the needed CB help trading one of those picks with the second pick 'extra' to gamble on QB. Rams were backed into a QB decision based on next year being at the bottom of the draft and a an ancient QB (if he lasts).
They didn’t take Simpson with the SOLE purpose of trolling QB needy teams like the Cards, Jets, Steelers—but it sure added some extra laughs for them to leave those teams left empty-handed. Especially so with Simpson taking the Card's last '30' visit and keeping the Ram's 'secret' at the Card's expense. The last laugh will be for Simpson to be a bust regardless of a year behind Stafford.
