We have talent on the defensive side of the ball, albeit young talent. We need to figure out how to keep that young talent healthier. As is usually the case with any team, availability will determine what kind of success we have. We have far more depth on this team than I can recall having in my lifetime. What we need now are star players. Love is that kind of player.

it’s a two year (at least) rebuild in any event.

IF Monti can fix the defense by 2027 then maybe the pick will work out.

But we should prepare ourselves for some nasty blowouts this season because this defense is going to be one of the worst in the league.

Hope I’m wrong.

The ONLY way this year’s defense is one of the worst in the league is if we have the same amount of injuries as last year. And since last year’s injury numbers were NFL all time record setting, law of averages would say it wouldn’t happen again. But, we are the Cardinals lol.

It would be so nice to have a really healthy year for the entire team

CW, the way this offensive personnel is shaping up we might have an offense that will help the defense.

No. That wasn’t true on defense. You can parrot that lie as many times as you want but for the majority of the season we had the majority of the starting D out there and they sucked balls.

Are you drunk? That couldn’t be further from the truth. Hell, we were missing our 2 starting corners before one stinking down was played. And only when Wilson got hurt did the D fall off a cliff. Cold hard fact……we had the most injuries in the league last year. And even if 100% of the injuries were on the offensive side of the ball, which WASN’T the case, that would brutally affect the defense anyways.

SF had the most, but we weren't far behind.

For us not to be the worst in league both Nolan and Agent Zero need to stay healthy and be stars.

Then maybe.

Too many weaknesses elsewhere for opposing OCs to target though.

And you’re right, the depth behind this questionable starting 11 is thin.

Zero defense in the first three rounds of the draft.

I’m hoping for a miracle but I think the defense is doomed.

HORSE CRAP. SMB sucked the year before and everyone INCLUDING YOU said that because of Monti’s incredible draft prowess either Melton or the rook from Michigan was going to beat him out and those two would likely end up our starters and guess what.. THEY WERE.

And only when Wilson got hurt did the D fall off a cliff.

Newsflash… if your entire D could collapse because of the loss of a journeyman ILB like Wilson, you HAVE A BAD DEFENSE.

Cold hard fact……we had the most injuries in the league last year.

COLD HARD LIE… AS ALWAYS. The Niners had the most injuries in the league and guess what… they didn’t hav the worst record in the league. THEY WENT TO THE SECOND ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS.

And even if 100% of the injuries were on the offensive side of the ball, which WASN’T the case, that would brutally affect the defense anyways.

We’ve been over and over and over this. The Niners, Vikings, Packers and other teams had RASHES over injuries all over the teams and their defenses didn’t go belly up.

But you know this.

Dude if you think that SMB and ST5 were the dudes keeping this defense from being top shelf I don’t know what to tell you. You’d think one of the SEVEN cornerbacks Monti selected in his first three drafts would have been better than ST5.

SF had the most, but we weren't far behind.

Actually only Detroit had more adjusted games lost on defense than the Cards did:

That is probably a better metric! Thanks for that.

This, and perhaps Gannon was a factor for the lack of aggression on defense last year. With Rallis now on his own, maybe he shows a different philosophy

No we don't. The only three guys who showed they have top tier talent are Sweat, and the top 2 rookies we picked last year (CB/DL who's names escape me... man, age is setting in), who couldn't stay healthy in their first pro season. Literally EVERYONE else is a freaking jag or can't stay healthy or be depended upon to save their life.
He said lots of depth not top end talent. But yes agree

I personally think you can't make that strong of a claim about any of them. Johnson, Williams and Burke have probably looked the best, to me, but I would bet the farm on any of them being above-average starters this year.

Pappoe and Robinson are on the verge of playing themselves out of the league. Although Robinson FINALLY played ok the last month of the season.
Pappoe was a 5th round pick drafted to play teams and maybe develop. Seems like that’s exactly what he’s doing

Yeah, and those guys are a dime a dozen and he really didn't even flash on special teams. We were forced to play him late in the season and he was horrible. But that defense was so bad it's really not fair to single out any one player. They had totally quit.

Thank God we got our DC back. :sarcasm:

I guess we better have a ball control run heavy offense
