Who? How about most of the defensive players drafted by Monti since his first draft. Not Monti’s fault or even the players’ fault injuries have slowed their overall progress. 16 of the 17 defensive players he’s drafted are still on the team. I believe only Xavier Thomas is gone now. Hard to believe the Cardinals don’t believe that these guys can play, especially since they kept Rallis to further their development. It’s not true that their D was butt all year. It was only butt after injuries decimated this team on BOTH sides of the ball & they had to depend on very young depth. Here are the 17 defensive draft picks made by Monti. I have the round they were chosen in parentheses.

S G Williams (3) - injuries
Edge Ojulari (2) - injuries
CB Clark (6) -
LB Pappoe (5)
DT Stills (6)
DL Robinson (1) - injuries
CB Melton (2) - injuries
CB Jones (3) - injuries
S Rabbit (4)
LB X Thomas (5) - waived
CB Davis (7)
DT Nolen (1) - injuries
CB Johnson (2) - injuries
DE Burch (3)
LB Simon (4) - forced to play a position that he wasn’t ready for due to injury (Wilson) to our best defensive player. BIGGEST reason why our D struggled. Doesn’t mean this kid won’t be a very good player this year or next year.
CB Burke (5)
S Crawford (7)

You may think these guys suck, and that your prerogative. I’m hopeful that we can continue to develop them into very productive players.
So all of these guys are good and talented? Jones was healthy all year last year (and in the back half of 2024 if we’re being honest) and couldn’t get on the field.

Melton has missed 5 of 34 potential games due to injury. I’m still kind of cheering for him.

Which of those guys, based on the available evidence, do you think are above-average starters in the NFL this year?

I personally think you can't make that strong of a claim about any of them. Johnson, Williams and Burke have probably looked the best, to me, but I would bet the farm on any of them being above-average starters this year.

Pappoe and Robinson are on the verge of playing themselves out of the league. Although Robinson FINALLY played ok the last month of the season.

Tell those losers to eat a fat one. They have no idea what it takes to be a fan of this team. This pick for US isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
There's a long, storied history of bad teams taking RBs high. Here's how I feel defending the pick

Of course, the way it might work for us is our roster isnt as bad as we think. We were an 8-9 team in 2024 and in 2025 49% of our roster had season ending injuries. If we are closer to the 2024 version of the team Love could hit the ground running.

This was the second biggest F up my monti aside from totally butchering the QB situation. He should have aggressively pursued even if it took a trade to upgrade the RT position in FA
I can't really blame him. Its so rare for teams to trade away serviceable OTs, you either find one in the draft or make due with a bad one.

I like Love. He’s a fine RB, though I think slightly overrated in a very thin pool. It’s a lot of money on a marginally impactful position. He’s a breakaway threat, but I’ll be curious to see how many of those he actually makes. Running to the right should be interesting. Any pick at that point was a bit of a gamble and in this case he impacts the cap for a long time. I mentioned McCaffrey before the draft. There are some similarities but think how much time he’s missed. He was the 8th pick in his draft. There’s a $25 mil difference in cap impact from 3rd to 8th. I don’t think Love is quite McCaffrey good, but Love is a multi-aspect threat. MLF’s system is a good fit as I noted before the draft. I hope his supporters are right and he’s fun to watch. Durability and the significant Cardinal weaknesses still make me wonder how big his impact will be.
Agree, one needs to look at his stats to see he wasn't exactly a overwhelming factor in games against top defenses. In fact in several games one big run was a significant contributor to his overall yardage for that day. He is no doubt a potential home run hitter however those fences are a bit farther in the NFL.

The Cardinals knew who they wanted to draft. They just didn’t know how to reach him.

Arizona was ready to select Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love at No. 3 as soon as it was on the clock. The Cardinals, however, had to wait to turn in the card since they couldn’t get Love on the phone.

“If you want me to tell you the honest-to-God truth, we had the wrong phone number,” Cardinals General Manager Monti Ossenfort said, via Saad Yousuf of TheAthletic.com. “The phone number that we were given was the wrong one. That was the little bit of the delay. We got that straightened out, and we called Jeremiyah and we got ahold of him. That’s what the delay was — technical difficulties. There [were] very minimal [trade] conversations. There was some surface-level, but nothing that came anywhere close to getting us to move off the pick.”

The NFL limited access to prospects’ phone numbers after several players received prank calls last year. This year, the league gave the list of phone numbers to a single point of contact at the club in football operations, with that person charged with protecting the information.

It is unclear how the NFL corrected the error in time for the Cardinals to call Love before turning in the card.

LOL... this team never fails to make itself look stupid, even in the smallest of ways.

Did I read it wrong? I thought it said that the NFL controlled all phone numbers and provided the wrong number for Love.

Obviously the only way to get access to or check a players phone number was through the NFL.

What RB in history doesn't get a good portion of their yardage from big runs though? Sanders did, in the current league the top 5 in yards were Cook, Henry, Taylor, Robinson and Achane, all of them are big run guys. So is barkley. Everyone would love an Emmitt Smith type but he was a great runner with one of the best OL's in history in front of him.
