The running back room is a bit crowded now. What do the Cards do with it? How many do they keep? Who goes to the practice squad? Can they trade any of them? Inquiring minds want to know.

Said it last night unless we use him on KO returns I can't see Benson staying with us assuming the knee is healthy and if it's not obviously he's gone. His key feature over Conner and Allgier is speed but with Love, speed is no longer needed as much. You're not going to use Benson on ST coverage so he's probably the odd man out. Better player than Bam or others but they have ST experience he doesn't have.
Conner is the perfect guy to have around Love early in his career to show him the ropes so to speak. Allgier can play he's just slow, it's why Atlanta didn't commit to him despite his early success, they could see he's just not fast and it is a limiting thing.

So my guess is Benson moves on, he can return KO's he did it in college early in his career but you're not keeping him on the roster just to return KO's.

I guess we'll see with him it's really about the knee.

Keep Love - obviously since he has a guaranteed $50M
Keep Allgeier - obviously since you traded for him
Keep Conner - leadership
Trade Benson - can't stay healthy and never really cared for his running style in the NFL
Keep Knight - love me some BAM
Keep Kiner - need RB depth for camp

We signed Allgeier in free agency, not a trade, just a heads up.

Anyways, I say you start shopping everyone who isn't Love for picks this weekend, with it being the least likely you ship out Allgeier. Conner might get a nibble from someone, at which point I guess you keep Benson as RB #3 for now, and see if he'll play special teams.

Knight's got an edge to staying on the roster because he'll play special teams, Kiner's got no shot. I don't dislike Conner as a person or player, but I think he kinda offers us the least at the moment, so I'd keep Benson if I was keeping 4 RBs. But I wouldn't be against keeping Conner and saying bye to Benson.

why would we get rid of benson - not gonna happen

I love the guy but you have to look at the roles now. Love is the starter, Conner is probably the short yardage or goalline guy. Allgier is the backup. the only role for Benson would be 3rd down like his rookie year except that Love is one of the better receiving RB's to come out in years so you don't want to take him off the field on 3rd down.

So unless injury Benson won't play much. 4th RB has to be able to play ST, Benson can return KO's but I don't see us asking a guy with his injury history to cover Kicks so he'll lose out to a guy who can play ST is my guess.

You're not getting any draft capital for Benson.

Conner is old so there's that but in terms of impact on Love and on the team I think Conner offers lots. He's just a great guy and a great teammate who can help Love

conner just got stafforded - the writing is on the wall gentlemen - turns 31 in may - i still don't know exactly what the injury was - broken ankle can mean a lot of things but he had surgery for it in what? september?

if monti still had confidence in conner we'd be talking about reese right now because apparently nobody was calling - conner is only signed through this season and he might miss the beginning of it - and probably still wont be right for a minute after that if he does fully comeback

me thinks we're not getting anything for any of our running backs

Oops, you're right on Allgeier. Either way, I'm for keeping him to bang into brick walls near the goal line. I'm with you on Conner. At the end of the day, I can't stand Benson dancing around in the back field. He was better this past year before his injury but in the NFL, you don't have time to do that.

I said when he was drafted that Benson didn’t look special at all in his college highlights. He’s a JAG but a cheap one at least.

Look at cost, saving and special teams. That will determine who stays.

He's old and injured. Unless he's really had a perfect recovery, I'm not sure his leadership is all that important, especially as a third string RB. I'm not calling him chopped liver, but still.

Benson won’t get touches. Still I’d keep him if injuries okay. They’ll lose a back or 2 along the way. I still believe he can play in this league.
he costs next to nothing and if he's healthy, as a third down back or back-up, I don't see a reason to cut him.

cut Connor if you're worried about needing a 4th RB to be a ST guy because either Love or Allgier should be toting the rock in every other scenario.
