Fair, Harry. I just can't think of any other way this draft would have fallen in our favor otherwise. Trades back would have been disastrous.

It's more than I'd ideally like to commit to an RB, but I'm excited to give MLF a major weapon.
It seems like we had to make this pick to keep MO from doing more damage if he traded down

The way the clock ticked down, it felt like he was desperate to make the move, and barely got offered anything. The Browns got what, a 3rd? I'd have been spending the rest of the offseason trashing Monti for it... and that's without how the draft fell, which would have made things worse. Phew.

Immediately after the Cardinals made running back Jeremiyah Love the third overall pick in the draft, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared a previously unknown nugget.

Cue the NFL insiders who knew about it all along but who decided not to do, you know, their jobs.

Love, per Rapoport had an abnormal EKG at the Scouting Combine. Further testing cleared the issue, and it obviously didn’t impact Love’s stock.

Regardless, if people knew about it (and Rapoport presumably didn’t find out in the handful of seconds after Love was picked), they should have shared it. It’s relevant information, no different than the constant rush to Twitter to break news of transactions that teams are about to announce.
Reminder of this

Is the running back en vogue again?

The Cardinals selected Jeremiyah Love at No. 3 overall on Thursday night, making him the league’s highest-drafted running back since the Giants picked Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall back in 2018.

Speaking with Cardinals media after the selection on Thursday night, Love said it was not a surprise to get the call from Arizona.

“I had great dialogue with [General Manager] Monti [Ossenfort] a few weeks ago,” Love said, via transcript from the team. “After David [Bailey] got picked, I kind of had a feeling I would get a call from the Cardinals.

“It’s just a blessing being able to have the opportunity to go to Arizona and I’m ready for it. I’m ready for the opportunity, and I’m just ready to work.”

Love also called it “very special” to be one of the highest drafted running backs in several years.

“I have the opportunity to really set a new standard for running backs,” Love said. “We’ve already had Saquon, we’ve had Bijan [Robinson], and we’ve had Ashton [Jeanty]. Now you have me.

“It’s my job and my duty to make sure that when I step foot in Arizona, that I do what I’ve got to do to represent the running backs and represent Arizona in the right way, so that’s what I’m going to do coming into the league. I’m going to make sure I represent the right way and I’m very blessed to have this opportunity. I’m just ready to work and do what I’ve got to do to have success.”

Does that put any more weight on him to perform?

“No added pressure at all,” Love said. “I try not to listen to a lot of things that are said about me, whether they are good or bad. I know I was just picked as the third overall pick in the NFL Draft, but I’m still myself at the end of the day. I still have the same work ethic, and it’s going to get better.

“I’m still just Jeremiyah Love, man. I’m still on the hunt for something greater than this. That hunt is never going to stop, so there’s no pressure here.”

This pick has made it incredibly embarrassing to be Cardinals fan among other NFL fans. I'm getting roasted for this pick far more than for any of our loses last year. This is going to be a universally panned pick.

Hopefully Mike has an awesome run blocking scheme that he can teach and Love balls out.
Tell those losers to eat a fat one. They have no idea what it takes to be a fan of this team. This pick for US isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

He wouldnt have gotten past the Titans. Glad we took him. Hes going to tear it up. Better then Bijon and Gibbs.
Whoaaaa, easy there now. Bijon is a different animal. If he can equal Gibbs which is feasible, I'd be ecstatic.

Let me check the rule book

Aha! I found it

Note that 5 OTs went in round 1. I noted in my previous post how the OT demand was increasing rapidly. Lots of Cap now invested in RB. Have to get a QB & replace a ton of players. Then try not only to outbid other teams, but convince players to come to AZ. I hate gambling on future free agents. Of course you could always hope one fell into round 2 of the draft. Of course that’s not working this year.

But, but, we didn't get a RT for him a year early hahahaha
keep that same energy when love is stuffed in the backfield 90 percent of the time…lol he will be wore out and run into the ground by the time we are competitive….looks like people would get tired of going into games with no ability to protect or open holes…what about all the posters on here calling for a offensive tackle at 34? lol the bone was picked clean with 6 picks to spare in the first lol….good times

I just tuned into the Cardinals press conference with Monti and Mike. Mike LaFleur looks so depressed, my god.

His eyes look almost as sad as Gannon did after the Titans loss. Pictures dont do it justice you have to watch the video.

I forgot it was an NFL rule that you have to have a RT in place a year before you draft a QBOF. Damn, I hate that we're banned from trading for a RT next season, let alone signing one in FA or drafting one next year. Tough rule for us! :sarcasm:
I am talking about this year…. And Brissett being on his back….we ain’t talking about 2027…..the pick sucked no matter how you spin it…you was excited about Marvin harrisson too I bet? Passed on alt….passed on wirfs…. Good times

The pick: Jeremiyah Love (No. 3)
We started hearing some buzz that Arizona might go this way earlier this week. And I know, I'm not supposed to like a running back in the top five. This isn't a running back. Love is so much more than that -- he's a true all-purpose offensive playmaker who is going to change this offense. He was No. 2 on my board behind Mendoza.
The Cardinals didn't really have an identity on that side of the ball; that unit was pretty bland. But coach Mike LaFleur is going to line up Love in the backfield and let him break home runs with his 4.36 speed. He's going to get Love in the slot and also out wide as a dynamic pass catcher. No pun intended, but I love this fit, even with James Conner and Tyler Allgeier in that RB room. This 20-year-old is going to energize the fan base

back half of the season last year teams knew we were going to throw the ball - fans knew it - get to brissett and beat the cardinals - we were dead in the water even with the gaudy passing numbers

love changes all that - my little browinie filled hippie mind was going over it last night - idk about every down back but i do kniw he's a threat on every down he plays

this kid is special- i keep saying that because i keep seeing that - showed my wife a youtube vid last year and ive been geeking out every since - it's the vision and zero time spent making decisions- if he stutters it's because he's buying time for something developing infront of him - not because he's still scanning - there's a difference

just watch when love gives us a legit play action freezing the linebackers who are also supposed to be covering trey who's running directly at them - safety help? that gives wilson (and mhj) one on one's - not to mention brissett getting hit a lot less

love is everything

3 teams took tackles before Wirfs. I liked the guy, but let's not pretend he was a unanimous top-3 pick.

But we won’t have a defense that can hold a lead, get extra possessions, or even get off the field once in a while.

Offense is pretty.

Defense wins championships.
We have talent on the defensive side of the ball, albeit young talent. We need to figure out how to keep that young talent healthier. As is usually the case with any team, availability will determine what kind of success we have. We have far more depth on this team than I can recall having in my lifetime. What we need now are star players. Love is that kind of player.

the one interesting thing here is this really now puts more on what a disaster it was how Kyler ended up. If you still had a viable Kyler as the QB now it would be an absolutely different ballgame. Kylers speed and ability to run causes defenses to account for him so you in effect often had 1 less defender to defend the run because they were worried about Kyler. We saw 2 years ago how effective that could be running the ball with Conner and Benson.

Now do that with Love and it gets pretty interesting. But of course we didn't have a viable Kyler and the one we had didn't seem to want to run anymore, and if we had a viable Kyler wouldn't have had the 3rd pick.

Again, we have plenty of time to get a RT before our QBOF. Which, btw, if our QBOF is a rookie, we won't be breaking the bank for him. Paying the RB won't be an issue for this team whatsoever.

Wring those hands. Wring 'em hard :D

It would've been nice to get one in th3 2nd, but not essential.

Sorry, I'm just loving not being the one in meltdown mode.

Also, sorry, but what monster sure-fire OT did we pass on at #3? Who would YOU have drafted at #3?

You wanted FANO at #3 and are complaining we took Love? I got nothing for ya.
I am not complaining we took Love at #3. I am not thrilled about a RB, it worries me. I also didn't "want" Fano at #3. It's a very poor draft at the top. I don't really like ANYONE in the top 10 other than Mendoza.

Bailey was who I was hoping we would pick. But is he really all that much better than Cashius Howell who is still on the board today? I don't think he is.
