You have me on the cusp of a Politics and Religion-esque argument... lol.
It pretty much is. I'm glad you didn't go further, even though it is an awesome topic to discuss.

I'm not going to start the thread but since there are so many posts against JB getting a little extra money to "potentially" be the starter. Let's have a JB vs. GM vote/thread. At least that will fill in a little time before the draft...
Can't even imagine that discussion LOL

I wanted him to win more than 1 game last year. Seems like a lot of people didn't get what they want...

I was alive when JB was an awesome team guy that leads in the locker room.

Clown take. Players have to get as much coin as they can out of their career.

Brissett is likely the starting QB and deserves to be paid like one. This clown organization should have figured that out before it became an issue.

Brissett was the 26th ranked QB. Murray was 30th. I don't see where he deserves a large pay raise. https://www.nfl.com/news/ranking-all-63-starting-quarterbacks-from-the-2025-nfl-season
Ok, I've had a couple of beers so I'm not going to argue but if I remember right, ranking goes from 1 being best to 32 or more being not as "best"...you just stated that Brissett was ranked BETTER than Murray, who makes significantly more money than Brissett. So, ergo...JB deserves a little bit more in his paycheck. If everyone is so down on JB, fine, cut him. Let's role with Mr. Mustachio.....
I get it, it sucks. But to chastise JB for wanting a little more money is just ludicrous. We're arguing over nickels in NFL money. Just once I'd love to see some posts showing hope for the upcoming season. Nobody knows what will happen until we see the cards on the field....Instead of complaining about JB, offer a solution! Oh, that's right, cut him!

Brissett is in line to make about $7-8 million this year, and probably wouldn't make more than that somewhere else if they release him. And I think they can match their 1-11 record with him as starter with just about anybody they sign to replace him.

If he proves that they can be more competitive next year with him as starter, reward him.

And yes, if I was him, I would want more money, but I don't see any need to throw more money at a marginable guy who might get you a 4-13 season.

fine, throw him a bone, but let’s be reasonable.

We aren’t winning **** this year anyway so he can sit on bench if he wants to try to be a hard ***.

If, in the end, Monti is dumb enough to give JB a Malik light extension, Monti is a fool.

I didn't particularly want Malik, but if we have to give similar money to one or the other, I would have taken the upside guy.

What leverage does he have?!? He was 1-11 as a starter. He should be thanking god every day that there is an NFL franchise that's incompetent enough to have him as a starter.
I dont have any issues with JB. If the Cards want him as their starter they should pay him as one. I like Jacoby. He's an accurate passer and tough as nails which I appreciate. Kyler or anybody else behind that line last season couldnt take that beating. I think Petzing was more responsible for the team going 1 - 11 moreso than Jacoby. After all, he was the play caller. Hopefully LeFleur is a more competent play caller?

I dunno...I dont recall JB being the problem last season. He actually played pretty well...a running game would have added to the win total...our defense showing up would have added more.

as I see it. he played well enough that Monti didnt feel the need to burn the building down looking for a starter...not even a rumor of us offering 5 first round picks for Joe Burrow...and we backed out on a guy or two because they wanted too much money...we wouldnt have done that if they didnt feel like they had some security already on the roster i.e., JB
at his age he only has a season or two left...the cards screwed up and bent themselves over the barrel...he damn sure should stick it to them...get himself a 30 million dollar nest egg to fund his retirement.. why not?? It aint my money and they gotta spend it somewhere.
seeing a blue collar kinda guy squeeze one big fat payday out of the NFL before he retires...well, that just kinda gives me a reason to feel good about the season.
dude earned his starting job. Pay the man.

Jacoby is clearly going to be the starter to open the season. He deserves to at least get paid like a low end starter which I think would be $12-14M per year:

He deserves what he's earned, and he hasn't earned a raise. And he doesn't have leverage, not even a little. What, he's going to force a trade so another team...offers him no extra money because he's a freaking backup?

It's not his fault the Cardinals can't bring in a better player to be the starting QB.
That said, if we run out the ole "you are what your record says you are" cliche, he is a 1-11 starting QB for a team not expected to do either jack or isht this upcoming season. To pay him north of 20M per year feels utterly ridiculous.

Draft a QB in rd 2 or 3, and roll Minshew out there. I dont really care.

They currently have 40 mil in cap space...what is more important that they are going to spend it on?

Feels like more of a principled argument than "we have the cash to burn" one. I never really side with the owners when it comes to money. I want players to earn what they can, so I do not begrudge Brisset for his tack. But he also needs a little self awareness; to read the room so to speak.

Why can't we give him an incentive laden deal that could push his money into Malik WIllis territory if he performs a starters role at a high level? You dont even have to build it around number of wins, since he alone cant be responsible for that stat.

Count me into that group. Although him sucking this year works for me. I just hope they don't give him another year on his contract so we can be done with him after this year.
I dont even worry about the extra year. Guarantee his potential earnings this year, give him a second year, incentive laden as well, knowing he most likely isnt your starter next year (god willing). He's certainly one of the better backups in league. Cut whoever you dont want to keep next year at a reasonable hit.

Agree. Bump his base...then add incentives for completions, percentage QBR, TD's, snaps, pro bowl, etcetera....
100k per passing yard at seasons end...100k per passing TD... subtract 100k per interception....
20k per rushing yard. ..his or the RB... (keeps him handing off the ball) subtract 100k per fumble.

He has been efficient...with a system like this he could add 10mil to his salary by seasons end

This is too funny after all the hand ringing over our last QB getting a bag.

JB is 1-11 as a starter by the way.

At least you’re consistent unlike the others.
