IF MB was going to remain true to his past behavior, he would have fired Jusin Frye and been on the hook for any remaining contract. When it comes to contracts, he’s more finacial irresponsibility that any cheapskate syndrome. MB confuses a lack of patience and impulse firing with strong leadership.

I haven’t been able to find any numbers/years on Frye’s orginial contract (even using AI search). If Monti did indeed sign JF to a muti-year contract, maybe Monti is the one MB should fire? Especially after the long-term deals by SK to KM and KK. Oh, wait a minute, maybe MB signed MO to a long-term contract.
Monti should have gone too, as well as our incestuous scouting department.

Who wants to be first??...lololol
as opposed to to all the great experienced coaches lined up for a chance to work for a team with such a great history of success. Tell me who they passed on that was better. This is this franchise’s problem with all coaches. They don’t get their pick of the best people. Even when they get a good one they seem to easily get hired away. Look at the HC hiring parade. They have to settle for someone who will come to AZ. If you want something to laugh at try all the guys who used AZ to leverage better opportunities elsewhere, like Denver or KC. The real joke is franchise ownership. The only good coach they’ve had in years was a guy others had written off and who only got a chance to be the guy, because his boss got a catastrophic illness. The only way this likely changes is to develop a guy and then overpay him to stay or promote him. What’s the odds on that happening?

Yeah, no. Drafting inferior talent is as bad an idea now as it was 30 years ago. When someone can actually name the consensus top OT in this draft, get back to me.
Part of the conundrum is it’s not about who was the best OT in college, it’s about who will be the best RT at the end of the season. Proctor is a good example. Some think he’s the answer. However, after listening to a Pro Day interview with him I don’t think he’d like to go to a team with a young, successful LT. That makes him a questionable choice in my mind. Love is a popular pick. There is a consensus on Love standing out because this is a mediocre RB pool. Project him in a group with Barkley, Cook and Robinson in this draft. Where would he go? Maybe ahead of Cook. He wins this year by default. I do think he’s very good. I’m not confident he’s All Pro or durable. The same could be said of Bailey though I think he would stack up better against recent choices, so I’d lean towards him if they can’t trade down.

This is a very reasonable, well thought out post. Thanks Harry! Love your insight with the board

We only get to pick from players who are in this draft. There is a long list of RBs (or any other position player) that would top who we have coming out in this draft. The consideration has to be between those players and not others who have gone before. It is not Love compared to the history of top running backs, it is Love compared to others in this draft.

Of course, we could trade away our #1 pick in this draft for a team's future high picks---that might get us ready should there be a QB in next year's class. Might be able to pull off a Texan style draft next year and get our QB and pass rusher. Don't bet on it.

Every team struggles with developing a coaching staff, get some success, and then watch those coaches move on to expanded opportunities elsewhere. It is part of the Parity Principle that organizes the league and gives teams a chance to improve---it also gives coaches a chance to move up the responsibility ladder and gain fame and fortune.

Cards are currently in the category of being a place for newbie coaches to get a first foot into the pro ranks coaching hierarchy. Our new head coach was with the Rams but took the leap away from that team to captain his own ship---even one that has no rudder and continues to sputter around the lake.

How Monti got to stay and JG and DP were given pink slips is something for the continuing Cardinal Soap Opera. Monti hired that coaching staff and brought in the players.

My guess is that MO/MB were upset that JG and DP benched KM and JG came out with the statement that even if KM were healthy, he (they) were still going to start JB. That destroyed any trade value for KM and the Cards ended up eating his remaining contract without so much as a used jockstrap in trade. JG/DP made the right decision on behalf of the other players who want to win but it cost them their jobs. (Wish we had some insider info).

Incestuous scouting department? Are you claiming that the staff are guilty of incest? Do we have Dogs and Cats living together? OR are you claiming that second definition of incestuous: "(of a relationship or community) excessively close and resistant to outside influence."

How do we know it was JG that benched KM. Monti may have decided to shut KM down to avoid further injury in hopes of getting something for him. Wouldn't be the first time a Monti plan didn't work out.

Mauigoa isn't the consensus top tackle in the draft. You have them as a similar rating. I don't. It's the crux of our disagreement. All good.
Who are you reading that has someone higher than Mauigoa? Where are you getting historic grades?

Lance Zeirlein of NFL.com scores Mauigoa a 6.48. He had Will Campbell 6.45 last year. Joe Alt a 6.49 the year before. I am not saying his grades/scoring are the best, but those are all of the ratings under his rating system. I am not sure where you are getting your info.

So again I don't dislike Mauigoa but I think he's sort of become overrated. He literally last week was asked if he had a problem moving to guard in the NFL and said I prefer to play tackle but will do whatever my NFL team asks me to do. Great attitude but we're talking about using the 3rd pick in the draft on a guy who many scouts think is actually going to end up a guard and the reason for not taking Love is you don't take RB's that high?

In a matter of weeks we've gone from take Mauigoa and if PJJ's knee becomes an issue in the future we can move Mauigoa to LT, now it's well he's willing to move to guard if the team wants to.
Ok...since when is stating that you will play where the team that drafts you wants you to play a bad thing? He said he wants to play OT but will do what is best for the team. That is exactly what most NFL draftees say.

I don't know if it was JG. .. that was me speculating as to what happened. We need insider info. It could well have been Monti (and/or MB) but then how does JG's comment about the QB starter fit in? JG would still be on the hot seat for that comment even if he didn't make the decision to bench KM??? The comment alone would undermine KM's value regardless of who ordered the 'benching' or IR designation.

The puzzle is the 3-14 record that lead to the firing of the HC and OC but not the DC and the GM. I thought the O side of the ball responded better to the large # of IR's as compared to the D---yet it was the O coaching staff that got fired. Where's Columbo when you need him?

I'm just gleaning bits and pieces here and there. For instance, Baldy didn't have Mauigoa as his top OT prospect. I also see Ioane as a better prospect on OL (different position, though, maybe) than Mauigoa.

Orlovsky has Simpson as his top QB .....

Mendoza is still the top QB.

Missed the point, did anybody ask PJJ if he was ok moving to guard before the draft? Are people asking elite picks worthy of the 3rd overall pick if they're willing to move to a position they've never played before? The reason they're asking him is lots of people think that's actually going to be his best NFL position.

Again good player, definitely a 1st rounder, but 3rd no way

tough situation for the kid im sure..in his mind he has to be shouting "No way!! Im not a damn guard!!"

But he fits tha traditional mold for RT...
I know Im often guilty of prehistoric thinking in regards to the game...
But at one time there was a philosophy...you put your best pass defender at LT and your best run blocker at RT....this resulted in many RT's being a bit shorter and substantially wider than their LT counterparts...
but strictly from an athletic position...these days we see more of the wider stoutly built tackles also being very capable pass protectors... but many have latched on the to visual stereotype of a 6'8, leggy, Top Heavy TE being the ideal pass protector.

Ok. I have not seen his take on the draft. I will give it a look.

I disagree on the Ioane claim. I think they both had really good tape this past season, and I like the physicality both play with. Mauigoa is the better mover, and is longer in both height and arm length. He is also younger, and was awarded All American selections this past year (1st team) and in 2024 (2nd team). Just my opinions on why I disagree.

This is a strange argument to me. You are making an assertion about the viability of a player at OT because he was asked if he would be willing to play other positions on the offensive line?

Garrison Hearst. I mean I just threw out a back who was highly anticipated who never amounted to squat with this team.

The OL matters, we've learned that over and over throughout the years.
I counter with OJ Anderson. Best RB in cards history.
Hearst went on to have some very good years.
The OL from North Carolina was nothing, albeit because of injury, we can't talk in absolutes.

33 years ago and Hearst held out into the season. It was a different league then.

For me, I like flashy players that put butts in the seats. If we draft Love at 3 I’d be ecstatic. I remember drafting Levi over AP and I’d rather take the sure-fire HOF player, even at RB, than a pedestrian OL.

Again I'm saying they don't ask every prospect they interview if they're willing to move positions. they ask kids who they think might HAVE to move in the NFL. So they're not even sure if the kid we might pick 3rd overall is actually a RT or if he's going to end up at guard.
