I don’t understand Monti. Shouldn't we be publicly in love with Love?

I am more and more convinced that Love at 3 would be like Fitz at 3 …. A pick, not necessarily at a position of need, that becomes a generational talent.
We definitely need to draft another true generational talent and not another little fraudster in a pink pinstripe suit.

apparently they signed RT Elijah Wilkenson, who started all 17 games last year in ATL and by accounts, played ok -- ranked 54th overall by PFF

so pending the draft, its comp between Josh Fryar and Wilkenson at RT

I think with the FA moves he has done Love is the consensus pick right now. Like I said in a different thread the chiefs have hinted if Love goes past #4 they are trading up for him. I will be livid if that happens.

I mean, unless he wants someone specific at 3 and is locked in to that person, which I doubt, why wouldn't you be dropping hints on hints on hints that you would be taking Love if he is there? Like, say things like "we are fixing our RB room, but it isn't there yet" or "love is super intriguing, would be interesting in this new offense" or "we will be taking the best player available, and we know who that is."

Just gamesmanship it a bit. If you don't want him, that's trade bait. Tennessee wants him, and they don't want NO or the chiefs jumping them. You could get a trade down bidding war.

But we are silent, full a RB room, and just are like, eh, we tanking yall.

Maybe I'm just dumb but can't they just throw a damn feint or two out there?
You don’t get it MO sucks at his job.

You and I could do a better job.

With the apparent gameplan in place to “tank” with JB and Uncle Rico, I’ve been leaning to draft RB Love. Get a GameChanger at RB this year, draft RT with RD2 ( maybe ASU RT ) and get your new franchise QB in 2027. Build the OL and DL in 2026.

If Monti was telling people he was leaning towards drafting Love, why would other teams contact him about trading our 3rd so they could draft Love? Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to reach out if it looked like we were set at RB?

Anyway, it appears this board is split between those wanting to fire Monti if he drafts Love and those who would fire Monti if he doesn’t. Talk about a no-win situation.

I just hope he has better luck securing free agents and draft picks that stay healthy and live up to their potential. Then, together with better coaching this year, perhaps we can achieve enough success to find a good quarterback in 2027 that wants to be a Cardinal.

Yes. He's clearly the best player there.

I want to say that nobody in the RB room except Allgier stops us taking Love because you can trade/cut both Conner and Benson for very little cost.

However, I don't see the logic in making the moves he has if he has high interest in Love. The best I can argue if that he wants to keep his options open and not telegraph his intended pick.

But all signs are pointing to us drafting a tackle at #3 that would go #15 in most other drafts.
Or he is building a Thunder and Lightning backfield.
Algeier and Love would be a great tandem...
Then we could really fudge with the NFL and start running the wishbone and power I ....hybrid that crap with a modern WC passing offense.
Briskett will be completing 90% of his passes as we dump off 5 yard quicks off play action

I said basically the same thing in another thread. We should be acting like he could be our pick to flush out anyone who might want to trade up for him.
But that just motivates them to trade with the jets...
" Hey Monti, trade me that third overall pick because I want to draft the guy you plan to pick" .. turns in to a very expensive conversation.

I mean don't get me wrong..if some GM wants to pay the price to buy the player Monti actually wants..I'm all for it. I want Love, but 3 firsts and two 2's does a lot for the teams future.
Would come in handy if we have to maneuver for a player next year.

Sounds like you are describing a QB and not a RB.

Because if you've come up with the idea to throw teams off by stating you love a player that you don't really intend to draft, then the other 31 teams certainly aren't going to be fooled by it.

But maybe one or two will be. And hopefully they are the right one or two.
