this is far down the list of issues with Monti
and yet being able to generate comp picks isn't a high bar to climb and should probably be a focus of someone whose plan is to build through the draft. Once again the issue is that Monti is bad at drafting so he has sign FAs who are also bad and then he has to cut netting the organization nothing.

To be fair none of his draft picks have been eligible for free agency.

This is true...I was only factoring in FAs. Maybe someone decides to pay his draft picks?
It’s not crazy that no one would want the FAs from some bad/mediocre teams. Especially enough to offset the Sweat/Calais signings (Calais may have been after the deadline).

a rebuilding team should sign more free agents than they lose

that says no comp picks.

yes, you can sign cut players that dont go into the formula, but I would rather try to sign the best players, not just the ones who were cut

I am as critical of Monti as anyone, but I think the comp pick thing is a nothingburger

I would love to be at the point where the team is performing well and they have so many good players that they cant keep them all. IF the team gets to that point, the comp pick thing comes into play
