It doesn’t make sense to cut km - I don’t get it - emotional response ? He hurt again, cards agreed to contract - pay lion share of salary cap - and don’t have a replacement ?

Lots of NFL and draft writer speculation (and to be clear, it doesnt sound like informed speculation) on the Cards trading back into the lower part of round 1 to take Simpson

in some ways, this would be a Monti job extension move --

since Simpson is in no way ready, it means a year of Jacoby or Jimmy G and the record to match

going into a year with (presumably) a great QB class coming out, its highly likely Cards wouldnt know what they had in Simpson.

Yet, after a burning a 1st rounder on him (plus whatever else was used to move up) -- they would be married to him for at least another year to see him start in 17 games

so Monti probably is safe for another 2 years (five year rebuild!)

To be fair Simpson was projected as a first rounder before the combine by most, his combine just solidified that. I wouldn’t take him at 3 but it seems lots of scouts think he has NFL starting talent.

Don't you think if we sign Willis it will be because of Matt L. endorsement, at least in part?
Simpson has been getting love well before the combine, lazy take on your part. He was told he is a round one talent by NFL GMs so that helped him decide to declare for this draft.
I'm not pimping either one, I'll leave that decision to the "experts". Just saying if MLF and Monti want one of them then I'm saying heck yes. If their choice works out then we will all be happy. If not, we'll we get to start over with a new FO sooner than later.

I'd go Simpson instead of Willis. I like Baker but it's time to start making moves to get a quarterback and Simpson might not last past the top 10. Willis reminds me of Murray a bit. The second quarterback never lasts until 20 or 32 in a draft like this. That might be enough for some to say Flacco or Brissett or Willis. It depends on many things. The Cards just watch while the Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers make all these moves to get better. Rams got Adams, now McDuffie. The Cards better get busy. Probably no point anyways; they'll probably suck like usual.

I see him less as a failure and more like a project that took as long to develop as people expected him to pre-draft. Willis is Anthony Richardson except there wasn't any team stupid enough top take him top 10 that year. He was an elite traits guy that didn't have it all mentally or mechanically.

Him having those few Packers games where he was elite as a passer is extremely exciting. Sure it might be overly optimistic to expect that to hold up over the course of a season, but if it does he has top 10 QB upside. Elite arm talent, and just as electric a runner as Kyler, but without Kyler's issues staying in the pocket.

The stain of him having once been a backup isn't an issue to me.

If this happens I will look forward to seeing how it works out. Way more so than Geno Smith or Joe Flacco.
If he flames out , oh well. At least you can say we swung for the fences.

Rodgers was a first round pick that was drafted by the Packers.

Love was a first round pick that was drafted by the Packers.

Willis was a 3rd round pick by the Titans who gave up on him despite still needing a franchise QB.

The situations are not the same.
