There's always that 1 a-hole who hates a move everyone else loves, right? Guess today that's me.

Gotta feel good for the people who really wanted Mike LaFleur. I just don’t see it.

He didn’t call plays with the Rams, and the last time he did call plays was with the Jets and that offense was brutal. He was only the Rams’ OC for two years, you don’t just “download McVay’s brain” in that time. Before that, he spent four years in San Francisco as the “passing game coordinator,” and the Niners went 29–35 during that stretch(Did make it to 1 Superbowl in that timeframe). I think people see the names “LaFleur” and “Rams” and get excited.

To me this feels like Bidwill chasing the next McVay again. I don’t think this is it. I will have a very open mind about this, and hope he can change my opinion. Welcome to AZ coach.
It’s also a big assumption to assume he’s gonna call the plays… maybe he brings in an OC he works well with and he’s actually a HC first and manages the whole team instead of a Kingsbury that tried to do too much…

I don't see how Gannon was holding him back, since he was seemingly reluctant to even get involved with the defense and that was one of my knocks on him...they hired a good DC as head coach and the dude just turned everything over to Rallis. It was just so frustrating. It was obvious Rallis was out over his skis when the injuries really took a toll.
You do not think that JG wasn't having input on the defensive schemes from week to week? The game I was at, JG was just as involved in talking to the defense as much as NR was and JG never once address the offense. That in the game in Seattle last year when the defense played great.

Why every year he was a defensive coordinator in the league his defenses were generally elite top five in most cases….
Yes, honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if he was better than expected. Mike could take a page out of Sean McVay’s playbook and bring in a seasoned DC in his first year as a HC. McVay hired Wade Phillips in 2017 - the defense finished 12th in points allowed. In Year 2, they finished 7th overall and made the Super Bowl.

I could see Ron doing ok.

Let’s go coach MLF!

Glad we finally got this done. Would have loved Raheem to be the DC hire and provide some experience- but will take the W today and thankful we weren’t stuck scraping the bottom of the barrel for VJ as HC

WOW, I looked it up and he is the only one they kept. I wonder is they felt JG was holding him back.

*Edit, most of the staff is intact still. Will be interesting to see if he keep anyone.

He needs to bring in his own guys. Fire them all. When culture is strong, you hire and promote from within. When culture is broken. You hire outside the organization. Unfortunately, nobody in this staff has proven they deserve to be retained. Rallis was as disappointing as anyone on JG’s staff, especially after we ONLY invested on the defensive side of the ball last year.

Hiring Gus Bradley would be like hiring Mike McCoy in 2018.
If we hire Bradley as DC that would be almost game over for this regime. The Colts defense made a lot of progress after they got rid of him.

I do agree that MLF should have a former headcoach on the staff. Kingsbury would be a great get at OC.

LaFleur has guys he wants lined up.
Maybe he likes Rallis and respects his job. I'd have no problem with that. Rallis was praised highly around here the year prior. Injuries hit them pretty hard and played 2 rookie CBs much of the time. Plus Cody Simon was the Mike and had the green dot for awhile.
They could do a lot worse.

This is interesting, regarding his time calling plays with the Jets. Zach Wilson will get you fired.

To piggyback on this, I read that Saleh didn't really want to fire him, but did so under pressure...and McVay made it known he wanted him.

Without doubt. Forcing coaches from a wildly failed previous regime on a new one is idiotic.

So no press conference? Are they that afraid of getting in front of the cameras and having to pretend Mike was their top choice?
I think starting tomorrow there's a media blackout for all teams not in the Super Bowl. Pretty sure if they had waited until tomorrow to announce they couldn't even have done that.

If Mike L wants to keep Rallis or replace him, who are we to tell him he can't. Hopefully he talks to guys like Budda and Josh Sweat to get their input. That is his Monday/Tuesday job-reaching out to the veteran players.

I like that this is an offensive hire, from within the division, part of a good coaching tree and his brother has been successful.

In recent memory, the Cardinals have been most succesful with offensive focused Head Coaches - Whisenhunt, Arians and to a lesser extent Kingsbury.

None of the above gurantees sucess. My fingers are crossed for him.

Bc you don’t undermine a HC's authority. You hired your HC bc you trust him to lead the team and staff, so this should 100% be LeFleur’s decision.
