Offensive coach whose offenses ranked 9, 22, 29, 27.
... And back as OC with KC, their offense went from #1/#1 (points/yards) before he got there, to 15/9, 15/16, and 21/20 the last three years.

We know they lost some guys, but still....

Did HE do that or was it a great defense driving it with Fangio?
How many coaches are really successful by themselves? I would argue that if Nagy was smart enough to hire Fangio to run his defense, he should get some credit for that. While some would argue that Stefanski is not good, I can't just turn my nose up at two seasons with double digit wins. Mike McCarthy is not inspiring IMO, but I get the argument for hiring him. None of the available guys are "great" options. Either they have been fired before, fired multiple times before, or have never held the position and are a complete mystery.

Sure, someone will take it, but that someone will be someone without any other options.

Why would you take this job, with 3 of the top 4 teams in the NFC and question marks at QB, if you had other teams interested in you?
The Raiders job is just as unappetizing. Good teams don’t generally fire their coaches.

What we’re really saying is we don’t trust Monti and Michaels ability to sell the team to a sophisticated buyer. 40% of all these coaches are gonna be out of a job again within five years. I’m not trying to make a headline in January or February or March (god forbid) with this hire.

It’s also not a zero sum game. There are probably 20 coaches who can do this job acceptably.

Yeah multiple national guys have said that Harbaugh would never interview here. He wants complete control of the roster and he just will never get that with Michael in the picture.
Bizarre Request considering he didn’t have that in Baltimore. I wouldn’t typically want my head coach to have that power anyways. They have enough on their plate without having to worry about every free agent and draft pick. He worked under two of the best GM’s.

Preliminary phone call conversation:

Monti: "Hey John, it's Monti Ossenfort from the Arizona Cardinals."
Harbaugh: "Who this, new phone?"
Haha.

Could also be like press conference on JG's firing:

Harbaugh: I am only taking a job where I can be the GM as well.
Bidwill: No problem - we can make that happen.
Monti: Same look on his face from the first question at JG press conference.

its credibility of the people making the pitch

you can have a salesperson promise you exactly what you are in the market for, but if you dont believe they can actually deliver on it -- you arent buying

I guess know your worth and his worth is more than here.

We have like 30 guys getting interviews...no Stefanski/McDaniel is very odd.

My preferred group/list probably looks like this.

Davis Webb
Vance Joseph
Chris Shula
Kevin Stefanski
Matt Nagy
Anthony Weaver
Brian Flores
John Harbaugh
Robert Saleh

EDIT: I forgot Jesse Minter

Now, this isn't a viability list, but more of guys who have demonstrated something that I like and I think could work.

Funny enough, Spencer Whipple of AZ fame is the QB coach for the Jags. I hate Waldron offense though so no Jags on the list for me.

All this said, I think I would be most excited for Davis Webb if we are talking an unproven guy.

He is also interesting - like KK but without any HC experience at any level.
Is he a leader of men at 31 years old (birthday this month)?
He has already interviewed with Ravens, Giants, and Raiders for HC this year.
