What HC vacancies will there be at the end of the season?

Not sure all the reasons HC candidates feel this way, but this is why the Cards were last to fill the position in 2023. 5 HC were hired in the offseason and the Cards were last to fill their vacancy…All other candidates picked where they wanted to go first before the Cards.

-I think obvious reasons are you don’t want to come compete against NFC West teams and HC’s (the best in the league)

-The QB position is unsettled…This is probably one of the biggest deterrents.

-A public dysfunctional ownership (all the bad PR and lawsuits are all public and I’m sure MB’s reputation is tarnished across the league)

I think the priority of order is the opposite of what you’ve listed, but generally yeah.

No OL, no DL, no QB is a tough situation to go into for a coach with options.

Of those, only DeMeco Ryans and Frank Reich took other head coaching jobs before being told yes or no by the Cardinals. The three finalists were Mike Kafka, Lou Anarumo and Brian Flores - and then obviously Gannon became available after the Super Bowl. Flores did pull out of the race, but none of the two others landed any head coaching job.

I think the Cardinals job would be one of the most attractive, if it becomes open.

Yes, but if they flame out in the playoffs again and not against Patrick Mahomes what are they even doing? Their defense has been crap despite resources being allocated to it and a defensive head coach. YOu can only squander Josh Allen's prime for so long.

I think you advocate for Tomlin when you are figuring out the QB position. When you have one of the top 5 QB in the NFL, you have to demand more. Just my opinion.

Yeah it’s interesting. It’s hard for me to say a coach’s career should be measured on one game (or two). If they lose in the Wild Card round to, like, Houston you have to start asking some questions.

I don’t even like McDermott that much but I’d be thrilled to have him replace Gannon. I don’t think Buffalo is all that talented aside from the QB and RB.

Buffalo may pop open if the Bills continue on their path but that is pure speculation.

Friend of mine is a huge Bills fan out east and he thinks their coaching staff stinks, that Allen basically is dragging them everywhere they go and covering for a ton of problems.

That said, he also gets down on Allen whenever he has a rare down game and says that he just doesn't have it. He has a bit of recency bias.

I’m not sure the bears have a bottom five ownership group in the NFL.

But they had a QB, they had an OL, they had a DL, and they were willing to do whatever it took.

Saying the Bears have worse ownership than the Cards now that Ginny has passed on is definitely a thing you did.

Admit I’m wrong about whether or not Sean Payton would have coached here? I think the facts are fairly obvious.

Omitting Payton from your list of finalists is either a mistake or a purposeful omission. I don’t really care which. The Cards should have agreed to whatever it took to get a real coach.

Now the Broncos under Payton are on top of the AFC, and the Texans under Ryans are poised for their third playoff appearance in as many seasons.

Meanwhile Mike Kafka could be our next OC and the current leadership is 15-34. The system works!

So yes I was a Bears fan pre-1988. And other than that string of good fortune, watched the Bears ownership flounder. And even Bidwill had a team in the Super Bowl.
