I might be the only one who missed this but the penalty on Rabbit against the TE wasn't actually on Rabbit they called hands to the face on Burke away from the play. SO the terrible call on Rabbit wasn't actually on him.

The 2nd one I called it out in the game thread, wasn't as bad as I thought but the OL #75 Connor Colby is clearly past the LOS in fact more than 2 yards over when the ball is thrown to McCaffrey. The rule says he can't be more than 1 yard over the LOS before the pass crosses the LOS. but wait it's even worse as you can see he's actually blocking Akeem Davis-Gaither as the ball is being caught. It's a 20 yard completion from the 36 to the 16. If they call it, it's going back to the 41 yard line 2nd and 15 with 25 seconds left. They might still win but you can see why the Cards coaches were all screaming for the flag it's really obvious. I checked the rule near as I can tell it violates both parts of the rule more than 1 yard and making contact before the ball is caught. You CAN block before the ball is caught if you're behind the LOS, but not when you're more than 1 yard beyond.

Heard it when announcers said it. Bad penalty on a non-targeted receiver. They usually won’t call beyond the line unless they’re past the 2 yard point.

I don't get the 2nd part I think it was as I said he's blocking ADG as the ball is in the air and he's downfield.

I only looked at the image you posted. Line of scrimmage is the 36 and the blocker is not yet at the 34.

i will add this observation: twice on second downs i SWORE it looked like the Cards running back easily crossed the line to gain with some to spare ------

and then it was 3rd and 1 (which they didnt convert)

my wife observed the same thing.

Gannon obviously didn’t think they got the line to gain as he didn’t challenge.

I think he doesn't have a good history on challenges. That one with Benson I am 99% sure he had it. Definitely at least slow your roll and take a hard look at the replay. Besides, that shouldn't come from the head coach, they have people in the booth who are supposed to help out with those.

Even more reason why I believe it was a good call.

I thought he clearly got it too. But when a coach doesn’t challenge I assume they’ve got more information than I can glean from tv.

This happened about 5 times throughout the entire game, certainly impacting the outcome

Are you guys really complaining about the refs in a game where we were totally gifted a Safety on a holding call in the end zone that CLEARLY took place at like the 2 yard line, that not only gave us the lead but also gave us the with 4 minutes left.

I mean, come on guys…

He is he's actually more than 2 yards downfield he's blocking a guy who's 3 yards downfield. LOS is the 36 he's on the 34 and blocking a guy on the 33.

Actually happened in the game last night and the rules guy said the rule is quite clear beyond 1 yard is not allowed. The reason is they are trying to protect defenders from getting hit by a guy going full speed as the ball is in the air

isnt it the ball though? like a td -- you can be standing in the endzone but holding the ball outside of it and it wont be a td

edit: somehow I thought the above was about Kylers intentional grounding. Doh

the spot in the scrum is really tough to challenge though --

in his shoes, the risk is a time out (in a close game) if there isnt a good TV shot (and heck, its 3rd and 1, we can pick that up......)

Huh? The hold is like way in the endzone. There's an article in the 49ers local site where they asked Jones about it and he literally admits it was a hold in the endzone on Puni.

After the game, Puni described Jones' initiative -- despite being San Francisco's No. 2 quarterback entering the 2025 NFL season -- to lead the team to a gutsy Week 3 win to improve to 3-0.

"He came in, commanded the huddle. There was no shakiness about him," Puni told reporters about Jones' presence. "He said the safety was on him. I said, 'Mac, don't even. That's completely on me.'

"But the fact that he's coming up to me and saying that just shows about his leadership. He's just a great guy, and I'm glad he got his redemption drive."

------------------

Here's a screenshot of the hold

no it's where the hold occurs not where the ball is but as you can see in the screenshot I just posted the hold is 4 yards deep in the endzone

I was surprised we didn't get that because it was really clear Benson thought he had it and he was motioning to the sideline. I don't remember the time on the clock maybe Gannon was thinking they would review it and overturn it without him having to challenge.

But the spots were bad all game for both teams

There were like 4-5 times that I was like "Yes! First Down!" and the ref spotted the ball a yard short. I'm usually pretty good at seeing that but it happened a lot on Sunday. The only one I got right was Kyler only getting 9 yards on that last drive and sliding short of the yard to gain. I knew right when he started to slide that he was short and I'm not talking about Kyler's height.

Maybe I am misremembering but I think we went hurry up and snapped the ball fast on that 3rd down play. TV didn't even have time to run the replay. All I was saying was look at the replay. Maybe it was a good call, IDK.

This is my fault guys because on Saturday OU got about a billion questionable calls against Auburn! Sorry!

But despite some things like this going against us, and on the road, we were seconds away from winning that game. People can say niners B-team offense, but we had a bunch of defensive guys out too.

And the 49ers defense isn't exactly the Sisters of the Poor either.

We've got issues. Definitely. But the defense is improved and will keep us in a lot of games. Hopefully the offense can figure it out.

My bad. I thought that was the case when I first saw the play but on the replay from the end zone they keyed on Calais up the middle and said that’s where it was called, which I thought was an insane break.

I still don't get why ours wasn't a safety too they said part of the ball was over the endline so I guess that's it but never knew that to be the rule

Yes, but the best thing was the next play call.
Kyler, take the snap , run around like a jack rabbit with his hair on fire until you get to our end zone and then take a sack.
