...which QBs do and still throw the ball away ALL THE TIME. It's rookie mistake crap, QB 101 stuff. I haven't said myself that it's to protect his completion percentage, but I won't accept that it's forgivable. What possible reason can there be that he hasn't developed this very basic QB skill?

Nice attempt to pose those as the only two options, stepping OOB or throwing a pick. It's rookie BS and it is in no way acceptable. Any vet QB should be pilloried for losing yards for no reason like this.

Both of them had a lower rating and Kyler Sunday. Purdy threw two picks other than one drive looked very pedestrian.

I’m pretty sure it’s not an either/or thing here. Kyler can both throw the ball out of bounds before he runs there and also not throw bad picks.

Honestly, I’m gonna say no because I watch Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen totally able to throw it away with people bearing down on them on the regular. Plus others. It’s a total young QB thing which Kyler isn’t any longer. Literally every Sunday you see multiple quarterbacks all day long sprinting for the sideline being chased and will let it go out of bounds 20 or 30 yards up field before going out.

quite honestly, I’m sure you watch enough football to see it too.

I believe if he slows to throw he's afraid of getting hit. He has to know he's about to lose yardage. If he doesn't then his biggest issue is situational awareness.

It's pretty easy for you to sit in your armchair and criticize the decision.

I'm not saying yes or no either way, but is there perhaps a plausible (emphasis added) alternative explanation?

In real time, sprinting full speed towards the sideline, with a defender or two bearing down on him (ready to decapitate him if given the opportunity), are you 1000% sure its reasonable to ask him in that split second to accurately assess where exactly is the LOS, and then flick the ball out of bounds?

Is it plausible, OZC, that maybe, possibly, he might not have the time to go through that analysis, and so instead just steps out of bounds? That then the being the safest alternative?

Sorry bud, I know you’re reaching for whatever ridiculous argument (or even non argument here) to excuse him. But the fact this happens with such regularity with Kyler and virtually no other QB that I watch week in and week out for decades leaves me to one conclusion: no, there’s no plausible excuse for this stupidity.

Again, throwing a pick in that scenario would make him maybe one of the worst QBs of all time. Surely you’re not suggesting every time he’s faced with that decision there’s a high likelihood of him throwing a pick. As someone stated before, the likelihood is highly likely to be like 0.00000001%.
