The thing that bugs me as a fan. They pick a GM that looks like an owner's friend hiring. They pick a coach from a team, meanwhile another coach from that same team seems way more qualified. They get past that and manage to scrape a passable offer from Houston for KD. Then the new GM manages a good draft. Fans are starting to see the "alignment" of the team going forward. Then they fixate on a shiny object that no fan can see fitting in with our team? Almost instantly they are blowing what little momentum they had with the fanbase. I mean, no one sees a fit, so why do they want this guy? There's other better fits for us that will be available with some patience. Thank good we don't have any first round picks left to trade at the current moment, or this trade would be done.

I certainly see the fit. I don't think you are correct saying the majority of the fanbase is against it. If they are they are wrong on this one. For the potential price it is a complete no brainer.

How? GS can't deal him for what they want. Only two teams are even interested. If we get him we are paying more, so it makes it harder to deal him as an asset. How is it a no brainer? Not arguing. I just don't see the logic.

That's fair but that also isn't what you said initially. There's certainly a good sized portion who want him, @Proximo being one, but that's different than hoping it works if we get him. I don't see anyone rooting against him as a player but that's different than rooting against acquiring him. I hope the ship has sailed on him.

Kuminga being a better player than Grayson is a dubious proposition. I certainly think Allen would have had a consistent home in the Warriors rotation that Kuminga lacked.

Due to the multiyear salaries of Grayson and Royce, I view the trade mostly as a tie at worse, with a potential upside if Kuminga develops. Sometimes I think people forget he is only 22.

I don't know what he's worth but he's only 22 and a former high draft pick (7th) so part of what any team would be paying for is unrealized potential.

Kuminga was taken #7 overall in 2021 but failed to make either All-Rookie teams and didn't receive any votes for the 1st team All-Rookie either. That isn't a marker of success but it is a little concerning when you look at his draft class. There are not many standouts, Kuminga included. He's made $24.85 million over 4 years and has a qualifying offer for $7.9 million next season.


The Warriors won the championship during his rookie campaign but he wasn't a key contributor or regularly in their postseason rotation. He played in only 16 of 22 playoff games, same number as Damien Lee did. He was 11th in minutes per game that postseason for them, averaging less than 10 a game. He didn't make a field goal in 9 of those 16 games.

This year he really struggled in a reduced role and didn't contribute until injuries forced him into their rotation playing a bigger role. His first 4 games this year, of 8 he played out of 12 the Warriors played. He averaged 32% from the field and 6.3 ppg with 1.5 rpg and a -5.3 plus/minus in those games. He did get his shooting on track and averaged 16.5 ppg on 55% shooting but only 3.5 boards and an average plus/minus of -7.0. That is not the making of a PF.

I just don't see it with him. I was fine with swapping Grayson and Richards for him, essentially swapping contracts, but after reading up on Kuminga and seeing more from him the less I want him as a Sun. I'll say we regret any deal we signed him to. Grayson is more likely to have positive trade value on his deal vs Kuminga at $20m+ in January or February.

They were lowballing for an asset and were probably going to be able to dump salary in the process. I dont think the Suns were that serious about Kuminga. GS only had one bidder so they had to add something.

My issue with Kuminga is that he doesn't have a single above-average NBA skill right now. This is probably unfair but he reminds me of Josh Jackson, athletic as all hell, and if you squint, he does a lot of things that look good in a highlight video. But so far hasn't shown (and perhaps it could be argued that he hasn't had the chance to show) enough consistency for those highlights.
