Welp, Kuminga just got offered a lot of money. Where does he end up?

Who offered him this contract?

So the latest report is the Kings offered 3 years 63 million for Kuminga in exchange for Monk and a lottery protected 1st rounder. no idea if true.

Monk would be an odd fit he can fill it up but he's not really a move without the ball catch and shoot guy.

Sam Amick is reporting it and apparently the Warriors said no

He is still 23. I think making such a comparison is really premature - especially when you realize he barely got an opportunity last season.

But if he is just Jerami Grant - I still want him at 25 million a year.

I think comparing Kuminga to Grant is fair. Jerami left a winning situation in Denver to be the man in Detroit where he put up stats but didn't help them win. Denver was willing to pay him a fair amount but Grant wanted a bigger role and more money. Kuminga is in a similar spot now. He hasn't proven to be a #1 or #2 option on a team but wants paid big bucks to leave a championship contending team. They're both tweener forwards, not true PF's and not SF's. They play smaller than they physically are and don't excel at any one thing.

Kuminga may get better over time but I don't want to be on the hook for his salary if he doesn't improve. I don't believe he's the sort of player that leads to a winning environment as the #1 or #2 guy either. If he'd accept being a #3 or #4 and being paid like that then I could see the gamble but it's not really in our interest to be the one gambling on him.

Really need a 4 and a 5 not a 3.
In a perfect world it's Podz, Steph, Butler and Draymond and then you either plug in a 5 or you play Draymond at the 5 and plug in a 4. Mink would make them even smaller if he's playing the 3.

He's a better fit for this offense thank Kuminga because he HAS learned to play without the ball as he got older but he's still not really a catch and shoot guy. Butler CAN play the 4 but Draymond at the 5 and Jimmy at the 4 and Monk at the 3 is such a small lineup. They're talking about signing Horford who would play 5 some too. Monk is a better shooter than Kuminga but they need him to be bigger IMO. The ideal for me is Butler is the 3.

honestly I don't want anybody enough on the Suns for Kuminga. Booker is a stud but he's obviously not going to be involved.

Dunn is nice but he's not really a need with Butler. Mark Williams isn't going to be moved so it's really only Richards. If they move Kuminga they are saying we're going for winning right now, so it can't be developmental guy in return.

Of course if you just subtract kuminga right now the starting 4 is Butler and the starting 3 is Moody so that's a tiny team, but it's a team that won a bunch of games starting that 5(with Green) before Moody got hurt.

I suspect they end up keeping Kuminga and moving him before the trade deadline if possible. I think the market is thin because teams know they want to move him, and he's not good enough yet to start a bidding war

From your description, Richards and RO fit your need perfectly. A backup C big enough against the bigger Cs, and a SF/PF with very good D and 3pt % on a fair deal. Royce can start ahead of Moody in your small lineup, playing the 4.

I'm not a big Richards guy although i do recall he played well against the Warriors a couple of years ago. He's a bigger younger version of Looney I guess but I don't think he fits the need as much as Mark Williams would have. 4 years younger than Richards, bigger, better offensive player better rebounder but again Phoenix just got WIlliams no way they're moving him.

Richards is better than any 5 on the roster so I'll concede that. RO is too old but I guess if you think you have a limited window to win with steph he makes sense.

If it were Williams and RO I'd be saying hell yeah do the deal. But maybe I'm underrating Richards

MarkW just costed Suns 2 FRPs at a bargain price, and a center piece for us. Kuminga doesn't have that mkt value by far. It's spare parts for spare parts trade. I wonder why no other team had interest in him, Bulls, Nets etc all have assets.

Oh I'm not saying JK is a star I'm just saying as a Warriors fan that's what I would want Williams not Richards. I realize Williams is NOT going to be in the deal. I wanted Williams before Phoenix got him said so several times.

as to why others don't line up for JK he's not a sure thing. He's gotten better every year, accounting for health last year but he's still a tweener. not a good enough shooter or ballhandler to be a 3, not a good enough rebounder to be a 4.

I like the kid but if your game gets worse when Butler comes in that's a REALLY bad sign because butler is the definition of a "connector" that makes everyone else better. But it highlighted what Kuminga doesn't do well

All this fuss for a guy who statistically shouldn't be a starter is wild.

I wouldn't say he shouldn't be a starter but he definitely doesn't deserve $25+ million annually or to be a 2nd or 3rd option. As a 4th or 5th guy in the pecking order, cool. He wants more than he's proven to be worth so ultimately it's a risky move to bring him in because he could be a bad contract by the trade deadline.

Thanks for the clarification on K's game. Now I see why GS want get rid of him and only desperate teams like Kings and Suns willing to take the risk on a still young talent.
It appears now Kings may get him with that FRP, I guess it's only a question of how much to protect it, solvable when there is a will.

Actually, Monk might fit GS quite well to replace Podz as starter or as the 6th man. And Kings with Sabonis/Kuminga/DeRozan/LaVine is quite formidable offensively. Looks like a win-win.

Except for small ball lineups, it looks like the Suns plan to play Kuminga with a big center, so bookend forwards makes some sense.

The issue is then Steph has to play on the ball more you can play Point with Draymond but ideally Podz brings the ball up and then the offense goes through Draymond. The older Steph gets the less you want him bringing the ball up because teams just double him as he crosses halfcourt.

Monk has improved but he's NOT a PG. A couple of years ago they tried Kuminga as a Point forward for this very reason but it's just not his thing.

I think any lineup that has Zach LaVine in it is probably not very good just an empty stat guy who won't play defense.

I would prefer keegan Murray because he's a knockdown shooter and can play off Butler but I don't think the Kings will trade him he's a better player than Kuminga is

The more I hear people talk about Kuminga, the more I hear the speculation that if he doesn't work out, he's a flippable asset. Then I think, Golden State can't flip him for what they want, so why would him coming to PHX and being paid more make him that much more valuable? I question this line of thinking I am seeing and hearing everywhere.

It’s like restarting an Allen or O’Neal contract but at a heavier price.

Sounds to me like the issue for Kuminga is more concerned about role than money. He is asking big money from the Warriors in order to force them to move him. He knows he will be buried on the bench there. He already has been. He will take less to go to a situation where he gets more PT.

Except it doesn't work that way. NBA players going back decades know the only way to guarantee playing time is to get a big contract. If a coach doesn't play a guy getting big bucks, then the owners are asking why that player isn't playing. GMs get nervous because they made the decision to pay the player. I hope he goes to Sacramento.

I have also been wondering this aspect of Kuminga. All us fans see his weaknesses in his game. We have guys we scouted to play here like Nigel Hayes, Flemming, etc. In the pursuit of Kuminga, are our coaches and scouts saying, these guys we brought in are not good enough, Kuminga with all his faults is still way better than the guys we brought in before him?

Umm, Fleming is a 2nd round pick who just looked horrendous in summer league, and Hayes Davis is a 31 year old international player signed for the minimum. Yes, everyone in their right mind knows Kuminga is a far better player.

Hopefully that won't always be true but yeah, day one Kuminga is likely to be the far better player.

IDK, I haven't seen either of those guys compete in a real NBA game yet. I just think there will be better guys at the deadline, and especially in next year's free agent class. Why jump at the first thing that comes along?

I really hope we're not going after Kuminga but I don't think there's much question who would be better at this stage between him and Fleming.
