He is an asset. In the rebuilding phase you can't just let assets walk unless letting them walk is advantageous somehow.
As far as I can tell he is the 2nd best center available behind Ayton - and there is a shortage of centers.

I still can't get over Nurkic just got traded for Sexton, who is a solid rotation player. If he is worth that Richards has to be worth something.

I'm hoping the Suns can either keep or trade Cody Martin as well.
We aren't, Gambo just tweeted we are letting him walk. That is the right decision, because I don't think any team thinks he is worth that much with so many teams with no cap room.

He's not worth 8 million to this team. I would much rather give his minutes to Dunn, or even to a guy like CJ Huntley.

Some team will be glad to get him. It's a tax saving move.

Liked Cody Martin a lot more than Allen and Beal last year. He will probably get picked up.

The Suns extending Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale are now looking like mistakes unless the Suns can work some magic.

This may be one of numerous reasons they have a new GM.

Hopefully the Suns can get in on some big deals coming down. See Shams Charania on video below.

But KD didn't come after the game 7 you always mention.
What do you mean? He absolutely came after the Game 7 humiliation against the Mavs in 2022 when the chemistry definitely soured.

We just had enough punks left the next year to ALSO be down 40 at home in an elimination Game 6 the next year with him.

I'd like to get a first round pick for Richards or at least multiple second round picks if the Suns don't keep him.

That dude ain’t netting anyone a first round pick.

I was under the impression we had a first rd pick next year that was swapped by 2-3 teams but we traded it outright in the Nurkic deal. Somehow I forgot about that. Ouch.

The Suns are still $12.3 million over the second tax apron per this source.

I've heard it said, that the Suns still have a first round pick and a second round pick.

IIRC, Gambo said something to this effect.

I'm not quite sure what that means because they have to have more, first round picks, because of the Stepien Rule.

The only thing I can figure is tradable assets.

I did too but was wrong…

Jan 15th - Suns trade Okogie for Richards

Jan 21st - Suns trade 31’ 1st to Jazz for 25’/27’/29’ 1sts

Feb 7th - Suns trade Nurkic/26’ 1st for Cody Martin (Stepian Rule doesn’t apply because of Jazz trade)

The Suns sent three second round picks, less one in return, in the Okogie trade.

Nurk is apparently worth a Sexton now!

Camara for Nurkic, a 1st to dump Nurkic and now we’re trying to dumb Grayson. A trade that will go down in infamy.

A lot of that and extending Royce O'Neale as well as Allen.

I think we’re also out of 2nd rounders until 2032. Different sites have different info regarding picks.

I'm still working on Gambo saying the Suns still having a first round pick and a second round pick.

Do you know if the Suns have a tradable first round pick?

Obviously, they have to have more first round picks because of the Stepien Rule.

I tried to decipher the Suns pick situation; stared about 3 minutes, went cross-eyed and then gave up. Maybe you'll have more luck than I did.

Been there, done that at different sites as well. :)

I’m guessing that they haven’t been able to trade the 2026 draft pick based on the rule that they can’t trade two years in a row. He might be talking about that since it’s a new league year, They may be able to trade it now.

That’s my assumption and I’m not stating a fact

If the Suns owned a 2027 first round pick, they could trade the 2026 first round pick, but as of now they don't.

I'm just trying to put the pieces together like everyone else.

I didn't realize the 2023 CBA change allows for MLE's and Biannual exceptions to be used in trades. Previously they could only be used in free agent signees. That expands the market for Nick Richards quite a bit.
