id take bryant over ott is all - i think it's the popular opinion idkSeems like the only reason you all hate Ott is that he went to Michigan State. Do you all think he has no merit at all to be a finalist? I don't get it other than bitterness at how Ishbia is running things.
I'd take Bryant also, but it's not because Ott is a terrible candidate and is part of some nepotism conspiracy.id take bryant over ott is all - i think it's the popular opinion idk
well there's no pun in thatI'd take Bryant also, but it's not because Ott is a terrible candidate and is part of some nepotism conspiracy.
Chap… he’s literally talked about wanting to establish a Michigan State toughness. His woefully under qualified GM choice has MSU ties. If he goes with a coach with MSU ties, a coach most of whom view should be in second position, it’s not some “conspiracy”. At that point it’s just a rock hard questionable pattern of favoring MSU hires over others, while passing up what most of us believe are more qualified coaches/GM.I'd take Bryant also, but it's not because Ott is a terrible candidate and is part of some nepotism conspiracy.
Again, the GM hire is definitely under qualified, but nobody has yet to show how Ott is also under qualified.Chap… he’s literally talked about wanting to establish a Michigan State toughness. It doesn’t make him automatically bad (note I never said that makes him “automatically bad” so please don’t put words in my mouth. I said most here and in the media favor Bryant). But being from Michigan State immediately brings questions as to what Ishbia’s priorities are when looking at qualifications for the most important positions to run the team.Again, the GM hire is definitely under qualified, but nobody has yet to show how Ott is also under qualified.
He's from Michigan State so that automatically makes him bad?
Please note, I'm not trying to single you out specifically, this is just a general observation of 90% of this board. I think the Michigan state thing does offer a potential pool of hires across the NBA and basketball, but most on here (again, not singling you out) have basically disqualified Ott simply because he went to Michigan State. That doesn't make sense to me, and I would hope a reasonable basketball fan would look at his other qualifications. In fact, if people do indeed think it's questionable for Ishbia to hire anyone from Michigan State, I'd think it would be a MUST to look at his other qualifications. It doesn’t make him automatically bad (note I NEVER said that makes him automatically bad so please don’t put words in my mouth. I think you are doing exactly what you claim everyone else is doing. Ott is a Michigan State guy and Ishbia loves his nepotism. Even in his other companies. In the last 4 years how many times have you heard Ott being a sought after head coaching candidate? Zero. He has not had any success as a head coach at any level and the league if full of assistant coaches that never rise above that level for a reason. Spolestra is an an exception not the rule. Please note, I'm not trying to single you out specifically, this is just a general observation of 90% of this board. Instead, it's been "oh, he's from Michigan State, he must be a bad hire." It doesn't make sense to me that reasonable basketball minds here would not even consider his already-existing resume BEYOND the fact that he has Michigan State ties. ESPECIALLY since it appears Ishbia's last Michigan State hire was so woefully underqualified for the GM role. Instead, Ott's already been branded as terrible simply because of that connection.
Note that Ott started in a video room for the Atlanta Hawks. Do you know who else started his career in the video room? Eric Spoelstra.
I don’t really see “hate” and takes that Ott is “terrible” and think he “must be a bad hire” from most of the board. Looks like people are questioning the ties and his overall qualifications but…Please note, I'm not trying to single you out specifically, this is just a general observation of 90% of this board. Just reading the two finalists resumes and Johnnie looks like the superior candidate to Ott. Compared to some of the other gentlemen who were cut, I also think they had better resumes than Ott. Personally I am hoping for Johnnie to be the pick. It's not that Ott is not qualified, it's that the other finalists were more qualified, in my opinion.Again, the GM hire is definitely under qualified, but nobody has yet to show how Ott is also under qualified.

Well, not sure I expected you to give up in a conversation that I haven’t been rude in or attacking, but you do you.I don’t really see “hate” and takes that Ott is “terrible” and think he “must be a bad hire” from most of the board. eh… nevermind.
Agree to disagree.
That’s fair. I prefer Johnnie as well based on their resumes, not because Ott went to Michigan State.Just reading the two finalists resumes and Johnnie looks like the superior candidate to Ott. Just to be a little snarky, if Ott is the selection, will our uniforms change to Green and White?

What indication is there that Ott would be viewed as a highly sought after assistant outside the Suns?!?! That doesn't mean he will 100% be a failure by any means. I hope he isn't. However, I am not going to get excited about this hire and pretend like his Michigan ties didn't play a huge factor either if he gets the job.

I'm not sure what all your problems are here. You want to attack me for my interpretation of the general feelings of the board, have at it. It's small and petty. No one hates Ott or has given that impression here. You jumped to an extreme out of nowhere. Is there a cause for concern with him? Sure, in that every Michigan State alum will be heavily scrutinized given what we've seen from Ishbia but no one has said Ott is unqualified. For the sake of his own career long term it might be best Ott doesn't get the job so it doesn't appear nepotism was a factor.
If Ott is given the job, I hope he pans out but I'm in the camp who liked Bryant before he was a finalist. I wanted Quinn from Miami but Bryant wasn't far behind on my wishlist.

As far as your last sentence, that is actually my opinion as well. So not sure why you and Cheese have to go full negative on me. Well, I understand you, but Cheese I'm a little more confused about.

That's not exactly an endorsement. I take issue with the nepotism on display with this franchise. It's not a personal attack on Ott or you. I don't "hate" the guy. I just see red flags about the people being put in charge of this franchise when the owner himself expressed "major" change. He was in the running for the Charlotte job.
