They’re really in the toughest spot possible. The reality is they’ve got TWO young “star” tweeners, for lack of a better term.
Booker is a PHENOMINAL #2, but a nominal #1… who is deserving of a MAX deal but not a Super-Max.
Ayton is a really good #3, with the tantalizing upside to be even more, who’s really only worth about what JJJ got if not a little more, but will get a MAX on the open market.
Neither are THE superstar that drive you to a title but both will cost more than they’re actually worth, while siphoning off too much cap space to ever get that legit #1.
And none of us want to completely bust the team up because we’ve been so starved for anything resembling competence after wandering in the desert wasteland from 2010-2020.
It’s kinda no-win situations all around if the ultimate goal is a title.
