Surely, the WORST of many horrible decisions made by Bill Bidwill. Arguably, not only the worst owner ever in NFL history, but he ranks right up there as one of the worst owners in all of sports history. Many would say that Bill Bidwill was too cheap to win. The sad reality is that, when the Bidwill family was awarded this franchise, they never had the financial resources to ever be a consistent winning franchise. It was a different NFL back then. In today's NFL, there's no way the Bidwill Family would ever be awarded an NFL franchise.

Yet, here we all are.

Heck of a halftime speech...not sure why he wasn't successful. :)

Hollway replaced Charley Winner, when Winner was coming off an 8-5-1 season in 1970. A typically stupid move by a mercurial Bill Bidwill. The Cardinals had some good seasons under Winner & it was asinine to fire him. Here are Winner's 5 seasons with the Cardinals:

1966 - 8-5-1 (Cardinals start 7-1-1, but decimated when they lose the following starters to season ending injuries: QB Charlie Johnson, WR Sonny Randle, CB Pat Fischer, and OLinemen Bob DeMarco, Ken Gray, and Irv Goode).

1967 6-7-1 (Cardinals lose starting QB Charlie Johnson & LB Larry Stallings 2 days before their 1st preseason game, as both were inducted into the Army. Can you even imagine that happening today.)

1968 9-4-1 (After starting 1-3, the Cardinals finish the season 8-1-1, and still miss the playoffs by a half game to the Browns. And the Cardinals beat the Browns in both games they played.

1969 4-9-1 (Cardinals lose 11 starters to season ending injuries)

1970 8-5-1 (Cardinals D had 3 consecutive shutouts in the middle of the season: Oilers 44-0, Patriots 31-0, and the NFC Champion Cowboys 38-0. We beat the Cowboys twice this season & they still went on to the SB (lost on last second FG to Colts) We lost our last 3 games to miss the playoffs. Bidwill was so pissed that he had the locks changed after the final game loss @ Washington 27-28. Winner reported to work the next day & was locked out. That's how he found out he was fired. Even in 1970, no owner acted like that.

Hollway had a ton of talent & still had two 4-9-1 seasons. The Cardinal players were still fuming over the firing of Charley Winner. He was rightfully fired & then the Coryell years started.

IMO, Lomax was slightly better than Hart. If he played behind the same OL's that Hart did, his career would have been considerably longer & he'd be in the HOF today.

Yeah I'd go one further he was MUCH better than Hart. Jim was amazing at not getting sacked, threw the ball just in the nick of time, but he was INT prone and not as accurate as Lomax was. Jim could get red hot but he had his very bad moments like the thanksgiving game where he had 5 or 6 INT's

I agree. Not sure why I said slightly.
