If there’s no protection this could really comeback to bite us

If it's not at least Top 20 protected, it WILL come back to bite us. And I am hearing no protection at all.

EDIT: Protected 1-12. Watch it be #13. We're screwed.

Suns didn't want to give up Cam or Bridges, and OKC wanted more...seems like an acceptable compromise.

Boom!

Suns‘ future first to the Thunder is protected 1-12 in 2022, 1-10 in 2023, 1-8 in 2024 and unprotected in 2025.

Like I said, you don’t include a first rounder. Rubio/Oubre was a fair deal given Paul’s contract. I’m glad they at least put protections on the pick, but they shouldn’t have blinked.

Throwing in Jerome and Lecque... what does the deal do to our salary cap space moving forward this year?

I disagree. It's a short sighted trade.

I think there were talks in the same sense there were talks with LeBron and then Aldridge.

I'm okay with this one not panning out, as long as Jones does SOMETHING to fill the holes on this roster, rather than just banking entirely on the bubble run and just adding a reach at pick #10.

There really was nothing similar between those two situations. Aldridge was coming here, by all reports, until a last minute save by Pop. Lebron was more of a pie-in-the-sky thing.

Ha, everyone wants to put the other team over the barrel, but it rarely goes that way. You're losing sleep over Lecque? Lol. (and the pick is protected!!!)
Not a fan of the 1-12. Should have at least been 1-14 protected. That way if we barely miss the playoffs we still keep the pick.

Lecque was the best athlete we had left on the roster, with Oubre gone.

This is now the least athletic NBA team since the 50s.

I will say this though... if the 2022 draft pick isn’t in the 20s then I think things went horribly wrong and Booker will be out of here.

Fair enough, but if Paul gets hurt...

Give up a pick to do Thunder a favor? I hope I am wrong, but I don't like this deal. Paul is old and frequently injured. I just don't see how this works out.

bleh... I was hoping it was one of those “heavily protected that turns into 2 2nd round picks”.

OKC puts it too the Suns. It's what a good GM does.

Here’s the way I’m looking at this for the Suns.

It makes us better right now. It’s going to be short season this year you load manage him and watch his minutes.

after this year he’s only on the hook for 1 year. If it’s working then great if it’s not then he becomes a huge trade chip a big expiring contract we can use.

That is what decides this trade... healthy Chris Paul equals good trade, injury riddled Chris Paul equals bad trade. I think only time will tell if this was a good or bad deal.

Reportedly Devin Booker was in favor of the trade. That may be the primary reason for the trade.

Lecque didn't play nor would he this year. Oubre was likely not being resigned after this year.

We are in a relatively short sighted league. You don’t make big moves to appease your stars and they eventually force their way out and you are starting again from scratch.

Sure this trade may not be making us better 3+ years from now, but we have 3 years to do things to make us better that far in the future.

Not happy a out trading away oubre. The guy had a motor on him and brought the energy to the team on the court.

I’m not thrilled with the pick given up, but We’re gonna lose Booker to the Lakers in three years anyway so I’m down with taking the risk here. If Paul can stay healthy, we should finally make the playoffs for the first time in forever.

The Suns made a mistake including the 2022 draft pick. I don't think there is any way excusing it.

Comedy relief for those of us struggling to accept the Chris Paul trade?

This is what the Suns have left to spend.
