I would rather keep Wilks than hire Caldwell.

Maybe they have someone in mind and are clearing the Rooney rule early? No other explanation for Caldwell.

Packers interview Caldwell for head coach job

ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reports Jim Caldwell has interviewed for the Packers' head coaching job.

The Packers are seeking a replacement for Mike McCarthy, who was fired after Week 13. Caldwell spent this year out of the league after being let go by Detroit at the conclusion of 2017. Despite his seven years of NFL head coaching experience, Caldwell has never been a difference-maker and would be an uninspiring retread for a Packers team in need of a jolt. Caldwell's interview satisfies the Rooney Rule.

Caldwell is a good coach. He keeps losing jobs for reasons unknown. How many coaches in the last 30 years have had a winning record coaching the Lions? And his firing from Indianapolis was ridiculous. I wish we would bring him in.

You forgot the sarcasm emoji. Caldwell is worth nothing other than getting the Rooney rule out of the way.

So in your eyes Wilks could lead the lions to three winning seasons in four years and the colts to the super bowl? Don't want Caldwell but anyone over Wilks

The Packers FO is pathetic, so I'm not surprised that they brought him in for an interview. I doubt if they are pathetic enough to actually hire him. Caldwell is awful.

Lol Matt Stafford had his BEST years under Caldwell and starting to look like the number one overall pic and he’s beaten us numerous of time (I remember when we used to own the lions, now they own us), but now he’s an awful coach?? The lions took a step back after his firing. Yall wish that Rosen would have Stafford numbers.

There is no point in bringing in a guy like Caldwell. I would add to that list, no way I would hire Whisenhunt, Bowles, Vance Joseph, Hue Jackson, Vic Fangio, Jack Del Rio, Mike Munchak, Jim Schwartz, Dan Campbell, Doug Marrone (if fired), Gus Bradley, etc as HC.

I wouldn't hire these guys because I don't think they are good HC's. I would rather force Wilks to be a figure head leader (players apparently like him) and hire an innovative OC and very strong DC (preferably running a base 3-4). He can accept those changes to his staff or resign.

The blueprint for me on a new HC is clear:

Hire an offensive minded HC with a very strong DC (preferably base 3-4). I would probably keep Leftwich as QB coach.

I'd expect nothing if we hired this guy. I'd root for him, but expect nothing

The Packers believe they are just a change of atmosphere from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Akin to Gruden taking over the Buccaneers or Shanahan taking over the Broncos.

I think most people who have followed Jim Caldwell would say that his teams underachieve. The Lions consistently had the pieces to be competitive beyond the results Jim Caldwell got for them.

The current Packer FO is a very arrogant bunch. This is not the Packer organization of even recent glory. If they think that Caldwell will return them to glory, they are a horribly mistaken bunch. I think more of Pagano than Caldwell, but not much more.

Maybe because he’s not a good coach.

So going to the Super Bowl is underachieving now? If Caldwell's teams underachieved then what so you say about BA's teams? At least Caldwell led his team to the big dance. BA won 1 playoff game in 5 seasons. I'd call that underachieving.

Yeah. Who wants the only Lions coach since the 50's to have a winning record. People forget the trainwreck of a team he took over after Schwartz got done and immediately won 11 games. Who needs that? [emoji849]

What’d he do after that? You do realize him & Schwartz made the same amount of playoffs & won the same amount of playoff games when they both were HCs, right?

You say he “took his” team to the big dance, but everyone knows he was just along for the ride with Peyton leading the way. Dude went 2-14 without Peyton during his stint in Indy.

I love how you use Cardinals persent or former personnel to boost up non-Cardinals like we’re the benchmark or something.

I agree with you. It is a disgrace that Caldwell was fired after 9-7 season with Lions and look what Patricia has done.

I think Caldwell is a good coach. I was hoping Cardinals should make him Offensive Coordinator when Wilks was named head coach. I bet he could have helped save Wilks job.

No. People go on here and talk about what a coaching guru BA is when in reality he's slightly above average. Caldwell took a team to the Super Bowl, I don't care who the QB was. BA won 1 playoff game and took an incredible play to do it. Don Shula only went to 1 Super Bowl with arguably the greatest QB to play the game. Does that mean Shula sucks too? And Caldwell took a loser franchise like Detroit to the playoffs and only had 1 losing season with them. You have to go back 50 years to find a Lions coach who left with a winning record. And now look at what Patricia has done. Took a 9-7 team and will be 6-10 at best.

Nah, this isn’t the first time you put a former or current Cardinal down to boost another person up. You love doing that to make a point for some reason.

You can keep pretending that it didn’t take a genius to take a Peyton Manning-led team to the SB. We’ll be on the other side waiting until you acknowledge it.

Don Shula went to 3 SBs & won 2 of them. With one of them being the only undefeated season in history.....what in the world are you talking about?

That’s cool & all. He had the same success Jim Swchartz did with them. Took them to the playoffs once with no playoff victories. That’s also with way better teams than Schwartz had.

Yep, Caldwell sucks.

A socket puppet as head coach could have taken those Colts teams to the playoffs. Manning was a head coach on the field.

I don't get why so many people on here want to try the Denny Green experience again.

Caldwell/McCarthy are retreads who rode the coat tails of all time greats at QB to good records. Both are viewed by their fanbases as headcoaches who held their teams back. They are both like Ken Whisenhunt.
