I would hope Wilks takes him out of the NB position tho, he no longer has the wheels to stay with slot receivers on a consistent basis.

It is a PR move...you have to have something to offset the Bradford signing. Just like trading for AP was shaking the keys to distract from the bad season. Restructuring Mathieu distracts from a poor plan to upgrade the QB position.

im thinking "restructure" is a word being used for the sake of egos
HBs current contract isnt readily "restructurable" to drive material cap savings without making some future hit kinda crazy.

Is Wilks a good enough DB coach to teach Mathieu how to play, with his skills at its current level ?
That is the question.
We all know the potential that we are dealing with in regards to Mathieu. I do not believe he will ever play up to the contract he currently is on, but I have been happily wrong more than a few times.

Depends what kind of restructure? A few players in recent memory have flat out accepted a payout no money pushed into he future? Ill wait and see..

FWIW, the Cards were 9th against non-#1 or #2 WRs last season in DVOA. I know that this is the narrative, but I don't really think there's the evidence to support it.

I am not sure I like this. I loved honey badger before the last knee injury, but ever since he has been 2 steps slow. I don't think he will ever be the same player again.
I really dont understand this line of thought? The guy came back from his first knee surgery and was not the same the next season. After a full year to recoup he came back and was in the running for defensive MVP... He blows the other knee and he has a year where he isn't quite the same. That tells me that this year he could be inline to explode again.. He is only 25 flipping years old.... It is very common for player to take a full year to regain the magic.. Guy could be a terror this year...

Two years ago he had a shoulder injury. If he was going to have another Savage Season, I think he would've had it. I think he can get better, still, but probably not on that level. I think he came in heavy last year because he wanted to be able to take more pounding.
The free safety experiment needs to end. Never made sense.

and he played the most plays of any defensive player in the NFL. I have no problem keeping him here. Good guy, fan favorite and we know he has natural talent. I am all for keeping him here, he could be a monster next year.

No he had another knee which is what takes the full year to recoup from much of the time.. He's 25 could easily get back to old form IMO

He blew out his knee TWO seasons ago, so he came back and has now looked mediocre to bad for two straight seasons after the ACL in 2015.
No sir was in 2016... the down year in 2017 check my link (second rehab easier)

No. He blew out the other knee in late 2015.
Then he was below average in 2016 AND 2017... when he was two years removed from the second blowout.
And he’s had other injuries that put him on the DL during that time too with his shoulder at the end of 2016.
