Garoppolo is okay abd could turn into a good QB, but I don't see anything special. If it keeps the 9ers away from drafting Rosen or Darnold, even better.

On a sidenote, watching Andy Reid's offense compared to Bruce Arians it's like another sport. So much creative scheming going on in that offense. Just when I thought I've seen it all in football, Andy Reid calls some crazy runs, screens and play action concepts. And this was in the worst outing of the season for their offense. Makes it even more evident that Arians got stuck in the past century. Really like him as a person, but we really need a fresh mind running our offense!

Draft one. Throw him in there and live on the cheap for his rookie contract. Spend your money on other areas and hope that the one guy was THE guy and you can, maybe, rebuild in a couple of seasons. A la the Seahawks with Wilson.

The only other way would be to get a veteran caretaker to start until the season is over, say about week 6, and then toss your possible QBOF that you drafted in.

Don't give mad bucks to ANY QB who is available. This team is facing a massive rebuild.

Stafford got his contract after starting 109 games, with passer ratings in the 90s his last two years and 8 of his career 25 4th quarter comebacks in 2016.

Derek Carr got his contract after starting 48 games, improving every year, culminating with a 12-3 record and 97 passer rating in his third year.

Luck got his contract after starting 55 games, with an 11-5 record in each of his first three years, improving every year to a 97 passer rating in his third year, before suffering through an injury-plagued 4th year.

Garoppolo has started 2 games and looked really good (in a system that once made Matt Cassel look really good!), before getting injured 3/4 of the way through the second game. Then Jacoby Brissett came in to replace him and looked almost as good.

Sure, contracts keep going up, but unless he plays ridiculously well in the final 8 games for the 49ers, i don't think any agent is going to get him into Carr territory. But i guess we shall see!

Agreed, it all depends on how much Jimmy G believes in his talents. If he believes he is worth that kind of money he'll have to play hard ball and get the franchise or transition tag. Play a full year and prove his worth, or he can take a 4 year 60 million dollar contract or so and be set no matter what happens. I believe the BB is a calculated individual, so why does he do it now? Has he made everyone believe that he was going to keep JG to drive the offers up? All this nonsense about 2 number 1's was never going to happen. He waited this long and now everybody thinks that SF got a bargain. I'll just say buyer beware. The good news for SF is they'll get 6 or 7 games to watch him play and see how he does before offering his contract negotiations begin.
