T.J. Ward is a game changer...one year removed from 3 Pro Bowls, and he had more tackles and interceptions last year than he had in 2015.

His 2017 cap hit is $4.5M. Very reasonable.

Antoine Bethea's 3 year deal includes $4M guaranteed, and his base salary for this year is $2M...with a cap hit of $3.4M.

I think BA wanted a vet on the backend and that's why we signed Bethea, but if were talking a 6th or 7th round pick then I'm for it. He's just a better player right now than Bethea. That simple.

Not worth it when we have so much money and draft picks already tied up in the position.

He may not get the play time he wants here (or the cash), but would love the pickup.

He would start at SS and rarely come off the field. We love playing 3-4 safeties over 70% of the time.

We need tacklers and ballers who can intimidate. Ward is that kind of player.

This is a poor opinion, but there is something about TJ Ward I do not like, and have never liked. Good player, but always thought his mouth was bigger than his game.

Gotta be a reason he is getting cut when Denver HEAVILY relies on defense to win games.

That being said my aversion to the Cardinals looking at this guy is pretty weak, so if it happens I would not complain, just would not be excited either.

How is Ward's game any different than Bethea?

Ward sniffs out plays like a cat. He's a finisher and a hard hitter. Bethea is slower now and not the reliable tackler he once was. Plus, Bethea is average at best in coverage. Ward makes his presence felt in ways that few safeties can.

you mean besides him being younger, faster, better tackler and having better coverage abilities?

We still have a good deal of cap room. If we're always looking to upgrade the team, this would be a spot to do it.

Personally I've been very impressed with Branch at SS

Someone else will sign him. He's not an aging back or some obscure player that catches Keim's eye, Meanwhile Seattle trades for Richardson, as if their defense couldn't get any stronger.
