Tamba Hali was only 3 years 22 million with 12 million guaranteed. We have plenty of money to beat that deal.
And Hali was the guy I wanted the most this offseason if his knees checked out. SK has a history of getting what he wants if he thinks it makes sense and apparently it didn't make sense in this case.
I don't know if I would call it chicken little. The reality is we lost to Carolina and we will have to beat them to make it to a Super Bowl. And Denver was only able to do that with a great pass rush. We can't beat them by shoring up our line alone - we NEED pass rush.
Granted, no one could have expected JPP to be a complete moron and turn down significantly more money to leave NY for ONE year and instead opt to stay with a team that will be lucky to break .500 this year.
That being said we have to do something. And there aren't many somethings left to do now and it's much much quieter than I ever remember under Keim's watch. Maybe not his fault but still extremely worrying.

Definitely a bummer and the wounds from the Panther beat down are still fresh with me as well. Denver needed that crazy good D because they didn't have a QB that could throw the ball more than 30 yds down field.
I've been pounding on the table for a decade (at least) to get a pass rusher in the draft and so I feel the angst about not scoring a potentially good one in FA this year. What SK can't do is spend stupid money that throws everything CAP wise out of whack. I bet SK wants to restructure/extend CC but it will be difficult to do so if he just paid JPP crazy high money.
Still early in the process and a surprise cut or two may still happen. If not shore up the rest of the roster when the drunken sailor spending has stopped and then go full bore in the draft for our pass rush needs.
