The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella, will now arrive in theaters June 9, 2017

Big screen release dates continue to change in the wake of yesterday’s announcement that Walt Disney Pictures has moved Star Wars: Episode VIII from May to December. Now, Universal Pictures has shifted the placement of one of their 2017 tentpoles. The Mummy reboot, originally scheduled for release on March 24, 2017, will now hit the big screen nearly three months later on June 9.

A legend that has endured since the dawn of man is reborn in The Mummy, Universal Pictures’ all-new epic action-adventure starring Tom Cruise and co-starring Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service). The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who also produces alongside Roberto Orci, Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious series, Wanted) and Sean Daniel (The Mummy trilogy, The Best Man series). Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay, and Bobby Cohen executive produces.

Am I the only one that thinks this is simply an odd career choice for Cruise?

Tom Cruise... in the Mummy? Cruise is an abrasive lunatic but I gotta admit, I like about 90% of his movies. That must be one helluva script, or he owes someone a big favor.

Brenden Frasier has got to be furious, what is next, Daniel Day Lewis in "Monkeybone 2"?

You dont have to protect him just because you have scientologist friends.

That's a juvenile thing to say. I asked a simple question. Do you have an answer? Because by what you just said, you don't. Nothing to do with Scientology or Christianity or pancakes.

No, I agree. Wondering what the circumstances are, besides money (if any).

I do think Tom is a strange bird but so are many of my favorites. At any rate, I have to think it's money.

Aside from the MI franchise, attaching himself to this genre..let alone another franchise seems so strange to me. This genre doesn't seem like his cup of tea. Maybe he is entering the same mode as Harrison Ford seemed to be as of late. If it's a massive paycheck.....I will do it.

Definitely going to be more "serious" than the previous series.

I am really intrigued by Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll.
