James Cameron is writing a new Terminator film instead of just producing. It's unclear if this will be a complete reboot, sequel etc. Since the franchise deals with time travel anything is possible including changing the future. Instead of just producing sounds like Cameron wants to put the franchise back on track. He is said to be diving into this now that Avatar 3 has been released.

This will new characters and a new story line involving AI. Arnold will not be involved.

“I can safely say he won’t be [in it],” Cameron told THR, adding, “It’s time for a new generation of characters. I insisted Arnold had to be involved in [2019’s] Terminator: Dark Fate, and it was a great finish to him playing the T-800. There needs to be a broader interpretation of Terminator and the idea of a time war and super intelligence. I want to do new stuff that people aren’t imagining.”

dude... DO SOMETHING NEW!
I agree. Although, I sort of get that he feels like his baby got way off track and he wants to put it back on track by writing this one and possibly directing it himself.

At least it's not Avatar.

I really want him to get a new Alita going, and that's not new... Although to be fair, it's a lot newer than Terminator.

I want him to do the Hiroshima/Nagasaki movie he mentioned about the only survivor of both atom bombs. That sounds freaking intense.

That would be epic
Right? I mean… Terminator 7 after the last 3 have bombed or another Avatar… or a story too crazy to believe that’s never been told before that is epic in scope but can be centered around one person. Seems like a no brainer to me.

But what do I know… he’s the billion dollar king!

He better take it, or Nolan will.

The only Terminator I'd really want to see at this point is if they could get the guys that were doing The Sarah Conner Chronicles back to finish off that story. It was getting interesting at the end of S2 when Fox pulled the plug.

James needs to do something new though. I would take Alita 2 that being said. There's a lot more of that story to be told from the manga. Ideally he would produce it while making something new himself.
