I am just not sold on him being a franchise QB anytime soon. He is an athletic project who will have to learn to read defenses, take snaps from center and run a conventional offense. You have to love the guys potential and athleticism but he just isn't polished enough to be a NFL QB yet...I think his private team interviews will go alot further to determining where he goes in the draft than his workouts (I think everyone expects him to look good there).

Not until after draft day. His size, accuracy, him being so damn mobile when our O-line needs help fits like the TDs to Fitz. These guys don't come along very often, if we have a shot at greatness we gotta take it.

I agree we need defense, but there is good talent in the second and third round. That and snag some real defensive skill in free agency. We aint picking this low for awhile, I hate it when I get home from shopping to realize I forgot to get what I went there for.

It double sucks when I go all the way back to the store and they are closed. Think about it. There is no QBOF in free agency, folks don't give up their Cam Newtons. First round talent, Championship talent, size and arm above and beyond the others.

He can throw it deep, he can dink and dunk, he won games with his arm, he can freeze the defense with his rushing threat and just by pumping the ball. He might even be gone when we pick.

Not a project QB, he can start and produce late in his first year. Year 2 no doubt. We still gotta see what Skelton has in the tank anyways. (I still like me some Skeletor, more so than Orton, McNaab, and the gang)
Again, there isn't any QBOF in free agency, I think we should go with the best QB in the draft like most of the teams you see in the play-offs did. Newton will be a star, does it have to be in game 1 or his first season.

Horton will be overhauling the D next year, our O-line isn't the best for old or fragile FAs to throw behind.
Both Skelton and Newton have the size and skill set. It's a great strategy for a QBOF. Start Skelton, give Newton all the #2 reps. See which one of these guys we one to ride with for a decade or so.

I was recently visiting one of the many mock draft sites and the writer said that he wasn't sure exactly why but he had a gut feeling that next year Newton would be wearing Cardinal red and looking good in it. I don't know why either but I've had that same gut feeling for months now.

I think he is going to grade out really well in his workouts and along with Gabbert be a top ten pick.

I believe he is the only QB in this years draft with super-star potential. Furthermore, if the Cards did get him I would be happy to see him there and would love to see this line-up at the beginning of the season: Bulger, Skelton, Newton.

and this wasn't even a Pro day at Auburn. It was a PR / Media day created by his management. At a Pro Day HCs, OCs,DCs, GMs & PPDs are in attendance. Not at this one.

I hope that your assessment that he goes by #7 is correct, because that will give us a great opportunity to trade down for some really good additional picks. That would be huge, especially considering that this might be a year without free agency, in light of where the NFLPA and the Owners stand right now on the CBA. We would need every pick that we could muster in the draft, because NO FA, NO TRADE, NO UDFA would leave us in a reallly bad spot.

This was not even a real pro day. There was no scouting working him out through real NFL drills and throws. This was a paid QB coach who is paid to make the kid look great in perfect situations, meaning he without a doubt did not make the kid do things or make throws or certian routes that will make him look bad. That does not happen at pro days.

Lets wait until the pro day and if he does it again in much, much more adverse conditions, I will be impressed.

I said that you can't take anything away from what he did today, I thought I made that clear. I'm not comparing him to Leaf, Russell, or anyone else. I'm just saying these things are pretty stupid and don't give you anything but a false belief.

And since you brought it up there has never been a QB over 6'5" who has been all that good. You can look it up. There was an article in SI earlier this year about the topic and how it would effect Ryan Mallett's draft stock.

Oh and I think Newton will be a bust in the NFL.

So a QB that dumb can go undefeated and win the Title while his back was hurt, if stupid is what stupid does, I hope he does it here. Newton knows a lot more than how to spell his name, he knows how to put it on big time trophies. You can call him dumb, I can call him the best QB available in the draft.
