Another beautiful day practice was held on the upper fields. Jim Dray was back at practice today. Ben patrick was running around very well already. he was even doing change of direction drills on the side.

They started again with KR practice with the QB's working on their footwork again. Then they broke into individual drills. About the only thing that stuck out to me during the drills was that Roberts case of the dropsies have appeared to return.

After individual drills they started 11 on 11. Matt's forst pass skipped along the ground on the outside. Fitz went inside and he threw outside. Based on body language and reaction I'm assuming that one was on Matt. His next throw was a throw to high over Spachs head that landed safely on the ground about 10 yards in front of the OL. The next play was a run to Hightower.

Anderson was next and he completed one of two passes. The completion was an outside pass in the flat to Wright. Then he handed off for 2 run plays to Beanie.

During the next series for Matt he was throwing out of the shotgun he went 2-4 first completion was an inside slant about a 7 yard pass to Fitz. The second was a 5 yard out play to Onrea Jones. His very next throw was a pass to Spach which Adrian Wilson stepped in front of and dropped a sure int. His other incompletion was a ball thrown a little to far in front of the WR.

Anderson was up again and went 1-3 during his passes and was missing the mark as well. His one completion was on a short dump off to the RB.

Matt got up again and this time his first throw was the worst throw I have seen him throw all of camp. He was in shotgun and the throw literally made a B-line for the feet of the offensive line. There is no way to tell who it was meant for or intended for. It was just a terrible throw. He followed that up with a 5 yard completion to Fitz on a crossing pattern.

After the 11 on 11 they broke up into WR vs CB drills and OL vs DL drills. It was nice to see Grimm back running the drills again. Players that stood out on both sides were Stevie Baggs,(the kid does have some quicks) & Calais Campbell (he was being ooohed and ahhed by the other Dline after the quickness and moves he was displaying) Gabe Watson hurt his foot and had his shoe off being looked at by the trainer. He did come back however.

Reggie Wells completely stoned DD not once but twice during this drill. Was nice to see the way DD had been abusing the G's earlier in camp. Brandon Kieth looks particularly sharp IMO.

During the WR v CB drills all the QB's from what I can see were basically dumping off and not shooting for anything long.

After this it was back to 11 on 11. Matt had a bailout pass to Hightower for a completion on his left flank. The nexty play he was sacked by DD who seemed to come from where Faneca was blocking. The third play was a run.

Anderson's turn and on the first play he pitched the ball outside to Beanie who promptly fumbled the ball. the next play was a fumbled QB/center exchange. Both balls recovered by the D.

Matt was up again and this time he had a ball batted down by DD and a 7 yard completion to the FB Broughton in the flat. was a total of 1-2 on this go around.

Anderson was back up and he handed the ball to Beanie who went running up the seem. Hamza Abdulla literally crushed him with a punishing blow about 20 yards past the LOS. Beanie went down and was down for a good 3-5 minutes before finally being gingerly helped off the field and then carted to the locker room. SCARY SCARY moment. I hope the kid is ok and didnt break anything. You are in the open air environment up there and the crack that hit made was REALLY loud. Im sure the other players will be having a talk with Hamza about that. or at least I hope they will.

Didnt get much after that was to busy being worried about Beanie getting up to watch what was going on in the 11 on 11 drill from that point. After he was carted off I was able to catch Roberts semi redeeming himself makingjust a beautiful catch for a TD on a long bomb by Anderson. He has to adjust and come back to the ball to make the catch. It was a thing of beauty.

Will have a another report sometime tomorrow evening following that practice.

2 other guys that just stood out to me today:

Greg Toler: Always seems to be in the right position when defending a pass that comes his way.

Stephen Williams: Again another good practice making good catches in traffic.

Oh yea forgot to mention that DD was pulling Ewebema off to the side and coaching him during the DL vs OL drills. Was nice to see. He really seems to have come along.

Thx Shane for the analysis. I hate to hear about Leinart, he really needs to do well in those drills as well as the preseason games mentally more than anything. The kid needs his confidence & it appears it's not happening very easily.

I have this bad feeling about ML ...

It's always been mental with him and now the physical is starting to show. All these off season reports on well he is doing and how hard he is working and he starts off like this?

I know it's only the 2nd week of camp, but I have never been impressed with him and now even less.

Hopefully for the team's sake he can turn this around and wake up in time for the regular season.

Saw that at the scrimmage as well, thanks again for the updates Shane. The QB position is just terrifying. Unless you have a dominant defense, it's impossible to succeed with poor qb play.

Saw a short clip tonight on NFL Network talking about Matt struggling in the scrimmage Saturday. This guy is really under a microscope.

A short interview with Matt and he sounded confident and is really looking forward to the Texans game.

Hope he works things out. He has the talent and with a run game I see no reason why he won't be ok.

Sometimes I wonder.

And I think Leinart does too & thats the problem. He's never seemed like that confident, cocky rookie since his injury in St. Lou. If he can ever recapture that he will be a damn good QB.

Lienart sounds like he has lost the it. For people who remember Timm Rosenbach, he had a bad injury and was gun shy when he finally got back in over 1 year later. After that his career was over. He was very promising just like Matt. A real tough guy that was to scared to play. It sounds to me that what ever Matt once had that said I can do this is just a memory. I hope not.

I think you're writing him off prematurely. It has only been 8 days of camp, zero games and we're already talking about him "losing" it? I have my concerns too, but I'm not catastrophizing the situation. Personally, I refuse to draw any conclusions one way or the other until I see how he plays out towards the end of preseason. Even then, I probably wont know for sure.

If Leinart goes out and does well in preseason games, this whole negative perception of him will change. It's starting to get redundant hearing people drop the sickle on the man already. People are hanging on every single throw this guy makes. This is no knock on Shane, but he provided completion numbers in his analysis. This shows that just about every single one of us has some degree of anxiety about the QB position and rightfully so. But we all need to learn to pull back and let the chips fall where they may.

Additionally, keep a couple of things in mind. 1) Anderson is struggling too. He has made some really boneheaded moves out there himself. There have been two botched handoffs which turned into broken plays and some unimpressive decisions when pushed out of the pocket. No conclusions drawn on him either 2) Warner had a mediocre preseason/TC last year. It took him until Week 2 of the regular season to find his groove. 3) Aaron Rodgers went through some of the same struggles Matt is going through when he took over for Favre. He didnt have an amazing TC but turned it on in the regular season. I recall a story I heard on ESPN where a 6 year old went up to him and exclaimed, "we dont love you." during an autograph session.

In the end, it will all work itself out.

The only reason I have been so specific on type of plays and completion #'s and type of throws made is so you can try to get an exact idea of whats going on.

If I just wrote "Matt sucked today" or "Matt just doesnt appear to have it" or "Matt as usual is struggling out there" etc.. etc... Most of you would just claim that its just Shane being a hater. This way you have the exact #'s and the exact type of completions and throws that he is completing and missing.

I understand that we need to let the chips fall and the determining factor will be the games. but right now this is ALL WE HAVE to go on. Like it or not and what we have is not comforting. Especially when you have a guywho cant get abve 50% comp% in 7 on 7 drills and tops it off with Ints. All with zero pressure.

I just think you guys are expecting too much from a QB (Leinart) whose college team lost every game his senior year.
