I like that third video. I'm disappointed to see that Childress is largely a two-foot leaper much like Jason Richardson. Truly great athletes can jump off of one foot or both feet. Being able to jump off one foot allows an athlete to jump further and higher believe it or not (just watch olympic long-jumpers and high-jumpers). In basketball it allows them to take off further away from the hoop, jump away from their opponent, and travel more distance while in the air. I remember one offseason when Richardson was with the Warriors, he was trying to learn to jump off of one foot. I don't think it was a success considering he never does. I really do think that being solely a two-foot jumper prevented Richardson form becoming an elite player. All of the other tools are certainly there.

Its against the rules to jump off 2 feet in high jumping.

That must have been a rule prior to the Fosbury Flop because jumping off of two feet would not give you any advantage, actually the opposite.

He is a average defender if you look at his defensive PER #'s. He is not awful. He is no Nash. Not to mention his defensive #'s get a lot worse when playing SF.

I agree with Chap, you don't have to hide JRich like you do Nash.

Agreed. JRich is not bad at defending the 2 spot. The assertion that he is poor there is wrong.

I must have imagined JRich taking guys off the dribble using a crossover. Guys especially had touble keeping Jrich in front of them during the playoffs. Once they started respecting his outside shot, players played up on him and he was driving right by them.

you're right... you must have imagined JRich taking guys off the dribble and driving right past them. :)

seriously, I don't remember that AT ALL. I remember him being a flame-thrower from 3 though and doing a solid job when they'd get him the ball in the post.

If J-Rich was not entering his contract year with a bloated contract, I'd love to keep him. But, his trade value is probably as much based on his expiring contract as his offensive skills. :(

I'd be surprised if the Suns take on a big contract unless there is a really good player out there.

I feel sorry for the backcourt bench of the opposing teams. Dragic, Duds, and Childress....I can't wait.

None of my buddies are Suns fans but they loved watching them last year because of the Team 1 and Team 2 dynamic.

We just took on a pretty big one in Hedo. He's going to be making as much as our face of the franchise. Unless you mean another one.

I remember that too but I remember him driving to the hoop after he got hot from 3, getting to the free throw line and also throwing down some nasty dunks. Yes he was shooting lights out but it's not like we have not seen JRich drive to the hoop on several occasions.

I remember several people pointing out that last year he just wasn't spotting up to shoot the 3 like the year before.

Do y'all remember Grant Hill drawing defensive assignments in the playoffs because J-Rich couldn't play defense and offense in the same game?

Guys, if he really had the complete game some of you think he has people would be beating down the Suns door to acquire him. He's a nice player who makes the money of someone who should do more things.

What is with this sudden desire to tear JRich down? I've never seen you do something like this before.

If defense was the be all end all in the NBA guys like Nash, Amare etc..would be out of a job. In the NBA there are teams that need more defense and teams that look for offense. As long as you can do either....there will be a market.

I honestly think you could get Al Jefferson for J Rich, especially considering his contract and what JR did in the playoffs last season. He's athletic, fan friendly, a good locker room guy, and lights out from 3. Minnesota is actively shopping Jefferson for a 2. I think it's a perfect fit.

You talk to Sarver, I will make the call to the Timberwolves. If we can get Jefferson, we got to do it!

I'm not tearing him down, just trying to adjust expectations if/when he's traded. Someone suggest he should bring two lottery picks or an all-star power forward. The Suns will be lucky if they get a first-round pick in return. He's good at what he does but his value is not nearly as high as some Suns fans place on him. He's like half of a Joe Johnson.

Plus we can add in the fact that his being shipped out will be publicly known as a salary dump. Other teams will hold the leverage.

I'm not sure about that. It certainly would have been perceived as a cost cutting move a year ago but Jason had a very solid year for us. Add in the value of his expiring contract and I could see him being a real target, especially come mid-season. Also, the fact that Sarver has spent fairly freely this off season should temporarily dispel some of the negatives surrounding our owner.

Salary dump for us but a possible rental for another team. It's just hard to say right now who will be in the market for a rental.

Grant Hill was used against PG Andre Milller because he was strong enough to keep Miller from plowing into the paint at will. No doubt Gentry would have used JRich, were he equally strong.

Against the Lakers Jason guarded Kobe when he was on the floor and he didn't do too badly - every one took a shot at defending him...

While it's true multiple players took their turn on him especially since they played so much zone, but I seem to recall Hill and Dudley getting the lions share of time on him whenever they went man.

I also don't buy that Miller is stronger than JRich. JRich would abuse him in the post on the other end due to his strength, he just wasn't good enough defensively to stay with him.

In a van...down by the river.
Childress is a tweener wing player who will fit in the rotation. He's not super athletic, but he is long and a pretty smart player. He doesn't have great handles or a jump shot, but his shot selection is superb. He'll work hard on defense and use angles and his length to his advantage. He'll grab a few rebounds. Really valuable off the bench, but will never be a starting 2 or 3.
Um...what?
