No way BSP would enter the season as the #3 behind a 4th round rook.

IF that 4th round rookie is better than BSP he can either take his clipboard or walking papers. He has no upside in my eyes. But i dont see what "intangibles" he may or may not have as im not at practice with him.

Everyone praying for a 3rd round pick at QB is nuts. Everyone KNOWS our 5th round picks are our steals...

LEinart
Levi Brown from Troy in the 4th or so
StPierre

My only issue with Lefevour is he doesnt have a very strong arm. Levi Brown from Troy has a cannon and he is accurate. ITs always a risk when you take a small school qb tho as you dont know what the talent they played against is really like,

thats my guy too!!! I think Brown has a better NFL career than Lefevour.

My corps would be:

Starter, MATT LEINART

Backup, DAVID CARR, UFA (Interesting line on Carr) Played in 6 games for the Giants in relief of Eli last year. Completed 21 of 33 passes for 225 yards, (63.6%), 6.82 yards per attempt, long of 37, 1 TD, 0 Int, QB Rating of 93.6 This would be some realistic peace of mind as a back up. I believe he is 31 years old but not sure on age. I saw two different FA listings, one had him at 28, the other at 31.

It would be wise to go for Carr, because he might just be willing to come here rather than resign with the G-men. For one thing, he might feel that he has a better chance of being a starter by competing with Matt than with Eli. Secondly, there is no lock that Matt is a keeper here. With Pete Carrol taking over the reins at Seattle, Matt just might choose to sign with them after his tenure here. Something to consider anyway. Carr might just find himself as our QBOF.

Trainee: Lower round of draft or UDFA

Carr will be 31 this July. I had forgotten about Carr when I started this thread. He would be a good choice and will be an unrestricted free agent. He had almost 4 years as a starter for a horrible Houston team that never had a decent line to protect him.

Colt McCoy in the 3rd round imo.

Well if the Cards are going to waste a draft pick on a QB, Colt McCoy would be a good choice. Had basically the same situation at Texas that Warner had in Arizona.

Not much running game. Inconsistent pass defense. Threw a lot of high percentage short passes and was constantly under pressure but still managed to get the ball out to the right spot. Led his team to the BCS Championship.

Here's my issue: if you think Leinart is ready and will do well, why would you use a 3rd round pick on a QB? I just don't believe in drafting for career backups. A third rounder could be a starter at many positions on this team or it could be a guy that we hope never sees the field at QB.

I would actually like to get a qb on a later round just don't know if anyone as good as LeFevour would be there. Some like Jarret Brown of West Virgina. He actually has a stronger arm than LeFevour and should be there in a later round.

When the Packers gave up on Farve and went with Rodgers they drafted 2 qbs that year, Brohm in the 2nd round (who was a bust) and Flynn in one of the later rounds who has become Rodgers backup. The Packers did this successfully for many years when Farve was the premier NFL qb. They drafted and traded qbs like Bruner, Hasselback, and Brooks.

If we do get an experienced backup perhaps we can wait later than the 3rd round for a young player to develop. I do see your point. However i just feel we need to have a young qb that we feel can become a starter.

Carr is who I want as a backup. My second choice would be Redman. Pennington always outperformed expectations, but I want a backup who is not inherently an injury risk himself. I wouldn't be mad if Pennington were signed, I would just feel very cautious. I'd be much more optimistic with either Carr or Redman....
