I just posted about this in the Smack Shack..

As a Laker fan and a Kobe fan.. I'm not impressed at all.

Two weeks before the playoffs start and he's jumping speeding cars? Foolish and unnecessary risk that could have ended his career or even his life. My approach to the Lakers is the same as my approach to the Cardinals. My loyalty is to the organization over the players. Sure, I like Kobe, but the stunt jeopardized the Lakers chances at a title run, and I think it was a stupid and irresponsible thing to do. Kobe should know better.

Oh, and Adrian Wilson can jump higher. ;)

Its fake.

To be honest, I really hope you're right.

I didn't click it because I thought it was a fake too.

BTW what the hell is wrong with Turiaf? That guy is a freaking goofy spaz. Did anyone see Brand foul the crap out of him because of his stupid celebratory dance after Luke Walton made a jump shot? That was awesome.

I saw Brand commit the foul and tap Turiaf on the head, only to see Turiaf hit the floor like he had just been brutally attacked from behind.

It's an ad for his new Hyperdunk shoes that are light as hell. 13 oz. He wore them for the first time in the game last night.

Well done viral ad.

Ronny is fantastic--a great teammate and person. Don't bust on the dude...you would love the hell out of him if he were on your team.

I replayed that last night on my DVR, when Inside the NBA showed it. At 1/15th speed, you can clearly see the car's shadow off to the right of Kobe's shadow, indicating that everything was real, except for the fact that the car was actually at least a foot off to Kobe's right.

definitely fake....but well done.

there are quite a few other things that point to FAKE.

1. advertising his Nike shoe first of all before the jump
2. the quality of the camera (its not your average handy cam)
3. the fact that recording a stunt like this would have probably voided his contract with Nike or any number of other sponsorships, or even the NBA...yes, players have "stupidity clauses" in their contracts so they dont go ruin their career and still get paid.

I guarantee it. You think Nike can get some insurance company to back them up while they have Kobe Bryant jump over an oncoming speeding car to show how great their shoe is?

If something went wrong, Nike would cease to exist.

Reminds me of the rumor that Tom Cruise had no safety rope when he performed his rock-climbing stunts for MI2. The studio quickly pointed out that there's no way in hell they could ever get insured for anything like that.

Hey now let's slow down with that Kobe man-love. Somehow I think Nike would be OK with or without Kobe Bryant.

In a van...down by the river.
When i forst glanced at the thread title i thought it said...... Kobe jumps over a moving Ashton Kutchner(from the 70's show).
I was thinking....why would he do that and why would Ashton let him?

I meant that Nike would get sued into the ground.

Not even close, Forbes lists Nike's worth at ~23.64 BILLION.

They could simply compensate the Lakers for the remainder of Kobe's contract. Which would be a drop in the bucket for their 1.3 billion dollars in profits this year alone....

Then Nike would have to compensate the Lakers exponentially for lost attendance, advertising, apparel sales etc. Kobe's value to the Lakers goes WAY beyond his salary.

I read a follow-up that even though he used a safety line that the insurance company still almost didn't allow the filming because it was really him out there with only a safety line and they felt that it was still too big a risk.
